Beskrivning

Title: Master Theses Students (more than one position, 30 ECTS or 45 ECTS theses) AI-based fault detection

The research and development divisions of Scania, Man and International have merged into a common research and development organisation under the name Traton.

Traton's engine development is an important part of meeting our ambitious environmental goals with an ecosystem of sustainable transport. Among other things, controlling finding faults and unwanted behaviour, such as wear or malfunction of component, significantly affect the uptime, total cost of ownership and environmental impact of the vehicles Traton develop.

Our sections are responsible for drive train control system pre-development and drive train software. Parts of the vehicle design with a major impact on the environmental impact and greenhouse gas footprint.

We are a strong multi-cultural team with different backgrounds and experience, where a devotion for technical development and requirements balancing are the common denominator. Together we normally supervise 10-20 theses students a year and we regularly get the feedback that our way of working is characterized by an inclusive, positive and helpful attitude.

With us, you will have the opportunity to do your thesis on a major company leading the development towards a sustainable future. You will have the opportunity to develop your engineering skills, to learn if the Scania work culture suits your future career goals and to show your abilities and talents over 20 weeks of thesis work.

Thesis assignment:

As for all theses the work will be divided in four phases. Starting with the tentative research question an iterative information survey will take place during the first four weeks ending with a more or less finalized introduction, motivation, research question, literature survey and method choice as well as a time plan. The following twelve weeks consists of the main thesis work, divided in two parts and split by a mid-term seminar feedback option. Finally it's time to write up the thesis and present it orally both at Scania and the grading university.

The research of these theses will be focused on the design and verification of a new AI-based model for parameter quantification and fault detection on an Internal combustion engine. The study will mostly be theoretical utilizing data from previous experiments, but for the interested student an experimental verification can be added to the thesis.

Student profile:

We are looking for someone who is an imaginative, communicative, initiative-taking and structured problem solver who sees opportunities. You have a positive attitude, find it easy to make new contacts and appreciate working both in a team and on your own.

The would preferably be:

  • Educated in computer science and programming.
  • With experience on using AI as problem solving tool in modelling projects.
  • Having worked with Matlab evaluating and presenting results.
  • A Master of Science student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, computer science or similar.

As documentation is available in multiple languages proficient in Swedish and English in speech and writing is required.

If you have questions on the thesis or on the recruitment process please contact Dr. Ola Stenlåås, ola.stenlaas@scania.com.
