Beskrivning

Title: Master Thesis Student - Verification of a new tool for Oil soot diagnostics

The research and development divisions of Scania, Man and International have merged into a common research and development organisation under the name Traton.

Traton's control system development is an important part of meeting our ambitious sustainability goals with an ecosystem of sustainable transport. Among other things, monitoring the oil change interval is important, and our low greenhouse gas footprint is an important part of Traton being a world leader.

Our sections are responsible for drive train control system pre-development, engine test bench operations and chemical oil analysis. Parts of the vehicle drive train verification with a major impact on the engine wear and the greenhouse gas footprint are made by us with a significant influence on Traton's ability to lead the shift through a smooth transition.

We are a strong multi-cultural team with different backgrounds and experience, where a devotion for technical development and requirements balancing are the common denominator. Together we normally supervise 10-20 theses students a year and we regularly get the feedback that our way of working is characterized by an inclusive, positive and helpful attitude.

With us, you will have the opportunity to do your thesis on a major company leading the development towards a sustainable future. You will have the opportunity to develop your engineering skills, to learn if the Scania work culture suits your future career goals and to show your abilities and talents over 20 weeks of thesis work.

Thesis assignment:

As for all theses the work will be divided in four phases. Starting with the tentative research question an iterative information survey will take place during the first four weeks ending with a more or less finalized introduction, motivation, research question, literature survey and method choice as well as a time plan. The following twelve weeks consists of the main thesis work, divided in two parts and split by a mid-term seminar feedback option. Finally it's time to write up the thesis and present it orally both at Scania and the grading university.

The research of these theses will be focused on verifying a new tool for oil soot measurement and evaluating if/how it should be used in future engine development projects. More specific the instrument accuracy and repeatability as well as ease of instrument setup, time required for single point measurements and engine operation mapping should be investigated. The final report should suggest a processes on how the instrument is to be used.

Process student's profile:

We are looking for someone who is an imaginative, communicative, initiative-taking and structured problem solver who sees opportunities. You have a positive attitude, find it easy to make new contacts and appreciate working both in a team and on your own.

The student would preferably be:

  • Educated in combustion engine technology and/or combustion engine mechatronics.
  • With experience on laboratory work, preferably from an engine test bench, lubrication analysis or similar environment.
  • Having worked with Matlab evaluating and presenting results.
  • A Master of Science student in Vehicle Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics or similar.

As documentation is available in multiple languages proficient in Swedish and English in speech and writing is required, the knowledge of German is considered an advantage.

If you have questions on the thesis or on the recruitment process please contact Dr. Ola Stenlåås, ola.stenlaas@scania.com.
