Beskrivning

Title: Master theses students (2, possibly 4 positions, each 30 ECTS or 45 ECTS thesis) Process for field quality monitoring / Tool for field quality monitoring

The research and development divisions of Scania, Man and International have merged into a common research and development organisation under the name Traton.

Traton's control system development is an important part of meeting our ambitious sustainability goals with an ecosystem of sustainable transport. Among other things, a uniform diagnostics and component design for the desired vehicle life length is important and a part of Traton being a world leader.

Our sections are responsible for drive train control system pre-development, hardware, software, field quality and after-market tools. This means that together we follow the Scania product from its cradle to its end of use.

We are a strong multi-cultural team with different backgrounds and experience, where a devotion for technical development and requirements balancing are the common denominator. Together we normally supervise 10-30 theses students a year and we regularly get the feedback that our way of working is characterized by an inclusive, positive and helpful attitude.

With us, you will have the opportunity to do your thesis on a major company leading the development towards a sustainable future. You will have the opportunity to develop your engineering skills, to learn if the Scania work culture suits your future career goals and to show your abilities and talents over 20 weeks of thesis work.

Thesis assignment:

As for all theses the work will be divided in four phases. Starting with the tentative research question an iterative information survey will take place during the first four weeks ending with a more or less finalized introduction, motivation, research question, literature survey and method choice as well as a time plan. The following twelve weeks consists of the main thesis work, divided in two parts and split by a mid-term seminar feedback option. Finally it's time to write up the thesis and present it orally both at Scania and the grading university.

The research of these theses will be focused on the field quality monitoring. More specific field quality is followed up for many reasons (i.e. warrantee, emission legislations, technical development, repair and maintenance contracts, truck chassis workshop repairs and the spare part sales) and is, within the organization, used for many reasons (i.e. in customer support, in legislatively driven reporting, in engineering development work to enhance customer satisfaction, to calculate contract costs and to estimate the future spare part use). But all of these areas have their own tools and their own processes monitoring the field quality for their specific purpose.

The student focusing on the process will visualize the various processes used highlighting their pros and cons, taking an organizational as well as an low level and a co-worker perspective ending up with a suggestion on how to improve these processes and/or merge them in order to facilitate an easy and efficient use of the information. Also the future process perspective should be taken in on how to build in an ease for improved data gathering, storage, use and distribution.

The student(s) focusing on the tool will visualize the various tools used highlighting their pros and cons, taking technical, organizational as well as user perspective. The final delivery is a tool demonstrator merging the information found in the different sources and presenting them in a way suitable for the end users. As a part of the final delivery also an evaluation of the tool shall be made and a part of the thesis shall address identified improvement potential in the data gathering, storage, use and distribution.
