Project Description
Hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines (H-ICE) are a promising technology for reducing emissions in heavy-duty transport. However, hydrogen can degrade metallic materials through hydrogen embrittlement, affecting component performance and lifetime. This master thesis will investigate hydrogen uptake and embrittlement in high-strength steels used in critical engine components.
The work will involve materials characterization, laboratory testing, hydrogen analysis, and evaluation of material performance in hydrogen environments, contributing to the ongoing H2MATICE project with other industrial partners (Volvo, Traton, Bulten Group, Ovako).
Qualifications
We are looking for a curious and collaborative Master of Science student with a passion for materials science and sustainable energy technologies.
Preferred background: Materials Engineering,
Good communication skills in English. Experience with materials characterization or laboratory work is a merit.
Project time
The project is intended for a master thesis (30hp). The start date is Q1 2027 or can be mutually decided through negotiations.
Further information
This project is intended to be performed at Swerim in Stockholm. Swerim rewards the student with 50 000 SEK for an approved master thesis (30hp).
