The Department of Computer Science (DIDA) is one of two departments in the Faculty of Computing. It is BTH's largest department, with just over 70 employees. The department conducts research in computer science, covering the subfields of big data and AI, parallel computer systems, visual and interactive computing, and security and distributed systems.

Work description

This is a permanent, full-time position as senior lecturer in computer science with a focus on computer systems engineering. The position comprises research and teaching at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level in computer science, primarily in operating systems, compiler construction, systems programming, and parallel and distributed systems. Teaching may involve lectures as well as practical components, e.g. labs and student projects. The position may also include supervision of doctoral students and of degree projects at first and second cycle level.

The holder of the position will be part of a research environment where research is conducted in areas including parallel and distributed systems. Close research and education collaboration with industry and society is central to the department's activities. Duties also include conducting and publishing research of high international quality, leading and developing research and teaching activities, and applying for external research funding at both national and international level.

International applicants must initially be able to teach in English. Applicants without good knowledge of Swedish are expected to acquire it and teach in Swedish within three years of employment.

Eligibility requirements

Eligible to be employed as a senior lecturer is a person who has: (The Higher Education Ordinance Chap. 4, § 4)

• been awarded a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or other pro-
  fessional skills that are of significance regarding the subject content of the employment
  and the work tasks it will involve,
• demonstrated pedagogical skills.

Meriting competencies and experience

In addition to the requirements described in the work description, eligibility requirements and assessment
criteria for the position, the following degrees, competencies and experiences are considered meriting:

• Publication record in computer systems engineering, e.g. computer architecture, parallel systems, programming language theory, embedded systems or software engineering.
• Documented ability to teach operating systems and compiler construction.
• Practical experience of systems programming in C/C++, preferably also Rust, and of POSIX, the Linux/Unix kernel or RTOS.
• Documented competence in parallel and distributed systems, including GPU programming (e.g. CUDA).
• Ability to explain complex, abstract and hardware-related concepts to students in a structured and accessible way.
• Documented experience of applying for and being awarded external research funding.
• Documented good knowledge of English and Swedish.
