Hardware Functional Safety Engineer - Automotive Embedded Systems
To our customer in Gothenburg, we are looking for a senior Hardware Functional Safety Engineer to join a large-scale transformation initiative within the automotive sector.
This is a key role for someone who combines strong expertise in functional safety and hardware development processes with a passion for improving engineering practices, traceability, and quality across complex product development organizations.
You will work closely with hardware teams, system engineers, quality functions, and external suppliers to ensure that safety, compliance, and development processes are robust, scalable, and aligned with modern engineering principles.
Key Responsibilities
• Drive and maintain hardware functional safety processes throughout the product lifecycle
• Ensure compliance with relevant automotive safety standards and development frameworks
• Own and maintain safety-related requirements, documentation, and engineering artifacts
• Lead safety reviews, validation reviews, and quality assessments
• Act as a key interface towards suppliers regarding safety processes, deliverables, and compliance
• Support audits, assessments, and internal governance activities
• Improve traceability and lifecycle management of hardware development artifacts
• Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including version-controlled development workflows
• Establish structured approaches for artifact management, traceability, and change control
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve quality, consistency, and development efficiency
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across hardware development and supplier collaboration
Required Experience
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, or similar
• Several years of experience within automotive hardware development
• Strong understanding of hardware development lifecycles and engineering processes
• Experience working with functional safety according to ISO 26262
• Experience with safety requirements, safety documentation, reviews, and compliance activities
• Ability to work across organizational boundaries and coordinate multiple stakeholders
• Experience collaborating with suppliers in complex development environments
• Strong communication skills and a structured, methodical way of working
Highly Meritorious
• Experience from commercial vehicles, automotive platforms, or safety-critical embedded systems
• Experience driving process improvements and engineering governance initiatives
• Knowledge of requirements traceability and configuration management
• Experience with modern engineering tooling, version control systems, and automated workflows
• Familiarity with machine-readable engineering artifacts and model-based development approaches
