On behalf of established hospitals and specialist departments across Ireland, we are seeking consultant hematologists for 12- or 24-month contracts, with the possibility of extension.
This opportunity is ideal for specialists who want to work across both clinical and laboratory hematology in a modern healthcare environment while gaining experience in hospitals with high clinical activity and strong multidisciplinary collaboration.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant hematologic disorders, as well as hands-on experience in laboratory hematology.
About the role
As a consultant hematologist, you will be responsible for the assessment, treatment, and follow-up of patients with a wide range of hematologic conditions. The role combines outpatient clinics, inpatient care, laboratory responsibilities, and close collaboration with colleagues across multiple specialties.
The position includes responsibilities within both clinical and laboratory hematology and is therefore well suited to candidates who enjoy a varied role spanning both areas of practice.
Many of the hospitals have university affiliations and active environments for research, teaching, and service development.
Typical responsibilities
Assessment, treatment, and follow-up of patients with hematologic disorders
Diagnosis and management of leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma
Care of patients with benign hematologic conditions
Interpretation and reporting of hematology laboratory investigations
Review of blood smears and hematologic morphology
Collaboration with laboratory scientists and other medical specialists
Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs)
Outpatient clinics and care of hospitalized patients
Supervision and mentoring of resident doctors and other healthcare professionals
Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety
Participation in on-call duties where applicable

We are looking for someone who
Is a specialist in hematology
Holds specialist certification and medical registration from an EU/EEA country
Has broad experience in both clinical and laboratory hematology
Has experience in the diagnosis and management of both benign and malignant hematologic disorders
Has excellent English language skills, both written and spoken
Communicates effectively with patients and colleagues
Thrives in an international and multidisciplinary working environment
Previous teaching and supervisory experience is an advantage
