The Opportunity

Join Hitachi Energy and help deliver some of the world's most advanced HVDC transmission projects, accelerating the global energy transition. As a Control & Protection Commissioning Engineer, you'll lead the testing, commissioning, and handover of critical power infrastructure that connects renewable generation, strengthens power grids, and delivers sustainable energy to millions.

Working within our global HVDC business, you'll gain exposure across the full project lifecycle-from system testing and factory acceptance through to on-site commissioning, customer handover, and trial operation. You'll collaborate directly with customers, solve complex technical challenges, and develop expertise in industry-leading Control & Protection and SCADA technologies.

Whether you're an experienced commissioning engineer or looking to build on your background in Control & Protection, SCADA, substations, or HVDC, this role offers unrivalled opportunities for technical development, international travel, and career growth within a global market leader.

About the Role

The quality and innovation of our engineering, products, systems, and service offerings keep our customers ahead. Developing solutions for customers across the globe and working with market-leading technologies will challenge and enrich your career.

As a Control & Protection Commissioning Engineer within the HVDC business, you will be involved in the final stages of system testing at Hitachi Energy facilities before taking a leading role in commissioning Control & Protection and SCADA systems at customer sites. You will support the successful handover and trial operation of HVDC links while acting as a key technical interface with customers throughout the process.

This role includes international travel to customer sites throughout project execution, providing the opportunity to work on large-scale energy infrastructure projects across multiple countries and cultures.

We are interested in speaking with engineers at different stages of their careers. If you're passionate about learning, enjoy working in collaborative environments, and are excited by the opportunity to work with cutting-edge power transmission technology, we encourage you to apply. We know that no candidate meets every requirement, so don't let that stop you from applying.

Your Responsibilities
  • Organise and execute testing and commissioning activities, including responsibility for test and commissioning equipment.
  • Lead commissioning activities for Control & Protection and SCADA systems at customer sites.
  • Support technical discussions with customers and their consultants.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of project scope and division of work.
  • Identify and communicate any changes to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Ensure customer commitments are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Support tender activities relating to the commissioning scope.
  • Participate in the investigation and analysis of disturbances that may occur during commissioning and operation.
  • Contribute to the successful handover and trial operation of HVDC systems.
  • Demonstrate Hitachi Energy's core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for your own actions while supporting colleagues and the wider business.

Your Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • Experience in Control & Protection or SCADA systems gained through design, testing, commissioning, or project delivery activities.
  • Experience working with AC substations and/or HVDC technology.
  • Previous commissioning experience across plants, substations, or power system environments of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Experience with MACH systems, IEC 61850, HVDC projects, or IED relay programming would be advantageous.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to support and coach others.
  • Ability to work in accordance with relevant legislation and industry standards while maintaining a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and activities simultaneously.
  • Proactive mindset, willingness to learn, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

At Hitachi Energy, we recognise that our people are our greatest asset. In return for your expertise and commitment, we offer:
  • Competitive employment terms under a collective agreement.
  • Flexible working arrangements that support work-life balance.
  • Healthcare support and a wellness allowance.
  • A dedicated mentor to support you throughout your onboarding journey.
  • Extensive training and development opportunities to help you grow both technically and professionally.
  • Outstanding career progression opportunities within Hitachi Energy, both in Sweden and across our global organisation.
  • The opportunity to work in a truly diverse and inclusive environment, with more than 70 nationalities represented across our Swedish operations.
  • Supplementary compensation for parental leave.
  • Access to our Employee Benefits Portal, offering thousands of discounts, perks, and exclusive offers.
