The Department of Political Science is an international academic environment that welcomes students, researchers and staff from all over the world. Our research covers topics such as political institutions, elections, public opinion and democracy, international and European politics, environmental politics, corruption and political ideas. The Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg is ranked as the best in Sweden and one of the top 10-15 in Europe in its subject area, according to the global Shanghai ranking of academic subjects for 2024. We organize a large number of research seminars and workshops each year in the various research areas of the department. We offer education at all levels in both Swedish and English. In total, around 1,400 people study with us, and we have around 170 employees.

The Department of Political Science invites applications for an associate researcher to the research project Diaspora and Foreign Policy: A Comparative Analysis. This is a fixed-termed position for 11 months, 100% of full-time.

Duties

As an associate researcher, your main duties will consist of data collection, analysis of textual material, data compilation, and data coding. Other duties may be assigned according to the needs of the project, for example presenting and writing reports that describe the data material you have collected.

You will be part of the department's research support team.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have at least a Bachelor's degree in political science or a related subject area that the employer considers relevant.

To be successful in this position, you must have an eye for detail, good organizational skills and be able to solve problems. You need to have very high communication and collaboration skills.

The work requires good and documented knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods and data management, as well as experience of using language models (LLMs). Knowledge of how to use word-processing software and spreadsheets is required.

Applicants must have excellent written and oral proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of French is a merit.

Previous experience of working with qualified research support in a similar environment, at a university or in a larger research programme, is a merit.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability for the position. We will make an overall assessment and the applicant who is considered to be best qualified to carry out and develop the tasks described above will be appointed to the position.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months, 100% of full-time placed at the Department of Political Science. Starting date 1 October 2026 or as agreed.
