UI Design Lead

We're looking for a UI Design Lead to set the direction for UI at GeoGuessr and help our designers consistently create great player experiences.

The role
As UI Design Lead, you will own the craft direction, quality and consistency of UI design across GeoGuessr.

This is a hands-on craft leadership role, not a people manager role. You will work closely with our UI designers throughout the design process, helping them solve difficult problems, challenge ideas and raise the quality of their work.

You will define what great UI means at GeoGuessr, across UX, visual design, interaction and motion, and build the principles, systems and ways of working that help us get there.

You will also work closely with Game Art and Front End to make sure art, design and technology come together as one coherent player experience.

What you'll do

• Set the direction and quality bar for UI, UX and interaction design
• Mentor UI designers and help strengthen the UI craft
• Lead design critique and create a strong culture of feedback and exploration
• Develop our design principles, systems and interaction patterns
• Improve consistency across browser, Steam and mobile
• Partner with Game Art to integrate art seamlessly into the player experience
• Partner with Front End to improve the path from design to implementation
• Help establish how motion, sound and VFX support the UI experience
• Explore new tools and technology that can improve how we design

Who are you?
You have a strong background in UI or product design, with excellent visual judgment and a passion for craft.

You are an experienced design leader who has led teams, disciplines or significant design initiatives. You know how to set direction, create alignment and raise the quality of the work, while still being comfortable getting into the details yourself.

You enjoy helping designers grow through feedback, critique and collaboration, and you know how to lead through influence and craft rather than formal people management.

You understand that great game UI is more than screens: UX, visual design, interaction, art, motion and technology all contribute to how an experience feels.

We believe you have

• Strong experience in UI and visual design
• Proven leadership experience within UI, product design or a related design discipline
• Experience setting direction and raising the quality bar for a design team
• Strong UX and interaction design skills
• Experience with design systems and scalable design patterns
• Experience collaborating closely with engineering
• Excellent judgment around quality, consistency and craft
• The ability to turn a creative vision into practical direction
