Business Unit Skutskär is part of Stora Enso's Biomaterials Business Area that is one of Stora Enso’s seven business areas, serving demanding customers with specialised pulp across packaging, hygiene, medical care and industrial applications. Through innovation, Biomaterials uses all fractions of the tree and enables long-term value creation by growing business in new high-performance renewable materials. Europe’s #1 fluff producer and #1 specialised UKP producer.developing renewable materials that replace fossil-based alternatives in a wide range of applications.

Our Business Unit consists of the Skutskär pulp production unit in Skutskär and Ala sawmill in Ljusne. Together, we form a modern, high-performing industrial operation where skilled people, technological development and sustainability go hand in hand.

The Skutskär pulp production unit is fully dedicated to fluff pulp production. Continued investments and product innovation are driving our future growth, and when our latest investment to Skutskär pulp production unit is fully operational in 2027, production capacity will reach 440,000 tons per year. Our products are further converted by our customers into applications such as hygiene products and airlaid materials used by people around the world.

As our current OHS Manager plans to retire during the first half of 2027, we are looking for a successor who wants to help shape the next chapter of our safety journey. As OHS Manager, you will hold a strategically important position within Business Unit Skutskär, leading the development of occupational health and safety, fire protection, site security and related regulatory compliance across the business unit.

Reporting directly to the Head of Business Unit and serving as a member of the Business Unit Leadership Team, you will combine strategic leadership with a visible presence in day-to-day operations. Your work will span both the business unit and the Skutskär pulp production unit, where you will play a key role in strengthening safety performance, supporting operational excellence and ensuring that everyone returns home safely every day.

You will drive continuous improvement, promote a strong safety culture and support leaders throughout the organization in building a proactive approach to risk management, accountability and safety performance. Success in this role requires the ability to influence through others, create engagement and turn safety requirements into practical actions and sustainable behaviours.

Working closely with managers, employees, union representatives, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders, you will act as a key advisor and ambassador for occupational health and safety. You will also represent Business Unit Skutskär within both the Biomaterials Business Area OHS network and Stora Enso's global OHS community. Beyond your functional responsibilities, you will contribute actively to the overall performance and development of the business as part of the Business Unit Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop occupational health and safety, fire protection, security and site safety programs.

• Assume responsibility for personnel, operations and work environment matters within the OHS function and its employees.

• Act as Management Representative for the Occupational Health and Safety Management System and drive continuous improvement in accordance with ISO 45001.

• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements, permit conditions and internal policies.

• Coordinate and further develop systematic occupational health and safety management processes.

• Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, coaching, dialogue, follow-up and continuous improvement.

• Lead investigations of incidents, accidents and safety-related events and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

• Serve as system owner and key driver for incident and safety observation reporting.

• Drive KPI follow-up, performance analysis and monthly OHS reporting to management and corporate stakeholders.

• Prepare reports for authorities, corporate functions and other stakeholders within the area of responsibility.

• Act as the primary point of contact for authorities and external stakeholders regarding occupational health and safety matters.

• Support managers throughout the organization in developing and implementing occupational health and safety routines and procedures.

• Prepare budgets and both short-term and long-term development plans for the department.

• Ensure that governing documents, instructions and procedures within the area of responsibility remain current and fit for purpose.

• Support compliance and governance processes related to site security and international trade security requirements (AEO, Authorized Economic Operator) requirements

Qualifications

We believe you bring:

• A university degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or another relevant field, or equivalent experience gained through industry.

• Proven experience within occupational health and safety management in an industrial or process industry environment.

• Experience with systematic OHS improvement work and management systems.

• Strong understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, risk management and regulatory compliance.

• Experience analyzing performance, preparing management reports and driving improvements through KPIs and data-driven decision making.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• A valid Category B driving license.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Swedish and English.

The following qualifications will be considered strong advantages:

• Leadership experience, including coaching and developing people, is strongly preferred.

• Experience working with ISO 45001 and certified management systems.

• Experience within fire protection and emergency preparedness.

• Knowledge of Seveso legislation and major accident prevention.

• Experience working with authorities, inspections and regulatory audits.

• Certification as Supervisor for Flammable Goods or similar qualifications.

Formal qualifications are important, but we also place great emphasis on personal qualities.

As the role includes a significant operational presence, successful performance requires that you either live within commuting distance of our operations or are willing to relocate to the area. The primary workplace is at our units, although occasional hybrid work may be possible in accordance with local policies.
