The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

Work in the research group Molecular Epidemiology and Cardiology focuses on translational studies to understand mechanisms underlying heart failure and heart muscle disease and to improve prevention and treatment of these conditions. The group includes both molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, epidemiologists, and clinicians.

Duties

The researcher will be responsible for conduct of work with cell models (especially cardiomyocytes), animal models (mouse), and a number of specific cutting-edge molecular biology methods applied to human heart tissue for ongoing projects in the group, including single cell (nuclei) isolation, spatial transcriptomics, and proteostasis analyses.

Qualifications

We are looking for a researcher with a PhD degree in molecular biology and experience in preclinical and translational studies of cardiovascular disease. Documented experience of the mentioned methods is therefore of considerable importance. Proficiency in Swedish and/or English is a requirement. A strong background in cell models and animal models is also a requirement. Experience of heart models is a strong merit, as is experience of transcriptomic and proteostasis studies of heart tissue.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. It is essential that the applicant can collaborate effectively with other researchers and clinicians within a larger team. The applicant should also display a high level of independence and work in a structured way.
