The Institute of Health and Care Sciences is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Health Economics.

The successful candidate will lead the health economics component of the research project CHAT-MH, which evaluates a person-centred chatbot intervention, and contribute to the interdisciplinary research centre DEMSAM. DEMSAM conducts research focusing on person-centred approaches, dementia-friendly environments, and collaboration across healthcare, social care, and society.

Duties and responsibilities

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will be responsible for planning, conducting and reporting the health economic analyses within the projects, as well as coordinating health economic outcome measures. You will work closely with researchers in caring science, psychiatry, health economics and person-centred care.

Your main responsibilities include:
  • planning and conducting health economic evaluations within randomised controlled trials (RCTs), complex interventions and longitudinal mixed-methods studies;
  • developing health economic evaluation models for person-centred interventions in psychiatric care and in health and social care for people living with cognitive impairment related to dementia;
  • analysing healthcare resource utilisation, costs, cost-effectiveness and patient-related outcomes;
  • contributing to the design and implementation of data collection relating to health economic outcomes;
  • collaborating in an interdisciplinary research team comprising researchers in caring science, psychiatry, health economics and person-centred care;
  • contributing to scientific publications and dissemination of research findings nationally and internationally; and
  • contributing to research grant applications and the development of future research projects.

You are expected to contribute actively to the scientific development of the projects and to interdisciplinary collaboration within the research environment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a Postdoctoral Researcher, applicants must hold a doctoral degree, an artistic doctoral degree, or an equivalent foreign degree that is considered comparable to a Swedish doctoral degree. The degree requirement must be fulfilled no later than the date on which the employment decision is made.

Priority will normally be given to applicants who obtained their doctoral degree no more than three years before the closing date for applications. Applicants who completed their doctoral degree earlier may also be considered where special circumstances apply. Such circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, elected positions within trade union organisations, military service, clinical service, or other employment or assignments relevant to the subject area.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in health economics, caring science, social work, public health, medicine or another relevant discipline with a clear specialisation in health economics.

Documented experience is required in:
  • participating in and conducting research projects;
  • health economic analyses and evaluations within healthcare;
  • quantitative analysis and management of complex research data; and
  • publishing scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals.

Applicants must also have solid knowledge of health economic methods, cost-effectiveness analysis, research methodology and statistical analysis.

Excellent written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish is considered an advantage.

The position requires good knowledge of Microsoft 365 and extensive experience of statistical software such as R, Stata, SPSS or SAS. Experience of health economic modelling, health economic software and analysis of digital health data is considered an asset.

Preferred qualifications

The following experience is considered advantageous:
  • randomised controlled trials (RCTs);
  • evaluation of complex interventions;
  • economic evaluation of person-centred care;
  • collection and analysis of patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROMs and PREMs);
  • register-based research relevant to public health;
  • interdisciplinary research environments; and
  • register data and mixed-methods research.

Knowledge of the following areas is also considered advantageous:
  • person-centred care and its implementation;
  • implementation science and evaluation of digital health interventions; and
  • psychiatric care, mental health and cognitive impairment related to dementia in regional and municipal health and social care.

Particular merit will be given to documented experience of health economic evaluation of person-centred care, as well as research in psychiatric care and digital health interventions.

Personal qualities

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you are expected to be able to plan, conduct and report research independently. You have excellent collaborative skills and enjoy working in interdisciplinary research environments. You are proactive, responsible and capable of working independently.

You have strong analytical skills, work in a structured manner and are able to drive projects forward while meeting deadlines. We also value a genuine interest in the development and evaluation of person-centred and innovative healthcare solutions.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. During the selection process, an overall assessment will be made of each applicant's qualifications, experience and potential, with the aim of identifying the candidate best suited to successfully carry out the duties of the position and contribute to the continued development of the research environment.

Employment

This is a fixed-term full-time position for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position is based at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.
