Älmhult is on its way to becoming a global destination for design. The Museum of Furniture Studies, the acclaimed institution founded by architects Kersti Sandin and Lars Bülow, has been acquired by IKEA Älmhult AB. Soon, one of the most comprehensive furniture collections in Northern Europe will re-launch in the southern Swedish province of Småland with a mission of inspiring and educating students and young professionals in the field of architecture, design and crafts. The ambition is to make the concept of the museum more accessible to more people.

Job description

As the Head of Collections at The Museum of Furniture Studies you will lead and secure maintenance, research and the presentation of the museum collection.

You will plan and prepare exhibitions and education/learning initiatives and through that, be part of securing a unique experience with exhibitions, seminars, education, trainings, workshops and more.

You initiate and lead acquisitions needed to maintain and keep our collection relevant and of highest quality.

The museum is located in Älmhult, Sweden but you will work in an international arena.

Qualification

We are looking for a passionate furniture design specialist. You come with an in-depth knowledge about furniture design from both a historical and contemporary perspective. It is easy for you to share your knowledge in an intriguing and understandable way for all kinds of target audiences. You are strong in collaboration and in building trustful relationships both within your own organization and with other stakeholders/networks and media.

You come with experience from working with research, linked to furniture design and has written and shared articles within this field.

You feel at ease when needed to act with speed and take fast decisions. You communicate in a clear and inspiring way engaging people in where we are heading.

You have a university degree in the fields of design/architecture/museum.

A deep passion for (furniture) design and how it has developed through the ages and will develop in the future.

• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

This is a permanent position, full-time (40 hours per week) and located in Älmhult, Sweden. You will report to the Museum of Furniture Studies Manager.
