Finnlines is a leading and growing shipping company in the Nordics, ensuring good freight and passenger connections from Finland and Sweden to the rest of Europe. We have been investing in our fleet for many years and as the most recent investment the two new eco-sustainable ro-pax vessels, NextGen Superstars, were delivered in 2023 and 2024.

We are now looking for a motivated Technical Superintendent to join our Technical Ship Management team on a permanent basis. As Technical Superintendent you will be responsible for designated ro-ro or ro-pax vessels owned and operated by Finnlines. In this position you will report to the Technical Managers and can be based at our headquarters in Helsinki or at our office in Malmö.

As a Technical Superintendent, your primary focus will be to ensure and oversee the technical and operational condition of the designated vessels, ensuring their safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards by collaborating with skilled professionals both onboard and onshore. You will also participate in and manage assigned development projects, such as vessel upgrades and projects aimed at improving environmental efficiency.

Key responsibilities in this position:

  • Ensure vessels comply with rules and regulations
  • Damage handling
  • Serving as a contact person for suppliers and subcontractors
  • Participating in ship modifications and conversions
  • Acting as a member of the alarm group

What we offer:

At Finnlines you will have the opportunity to work in an international team of experts and develop your skills within one of northern Europe’s leading ro-ro and ro-pax shipping companies. This is an independent and responsible role where you can make a significant impact on the technical and operational performance of our fleet. We are offering you (details may vary depending on whether you are based in Helsinki or Malmö):

  • Thorough onboarding
  • Standard employee benefits (lunch vouchers, a mobile phone benefit etc.) and the option for a company car (car benefit)
  • Extensive health care from Mehiläinen and insurances
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Responsible and stable employer who is committed to sustainable operations as a part of the Grimaldi Group

You will work either at Finnlines HQ in Vuosaari, Helsinki, or at our Malmö office in Sweden, with some flexibility for remote work.

What we are looking for:

The ideal candidate is a maritime professional with sea-going experience, preferably on ro-ro or ro-pax vessels. To succeed in this role, you must have good knowledge and understanding of the technical and operational aspects of the maritime industry. You should be comfortable communicating with various stakeholders and perform well under pressure. You should also have:

  • Relevant university or university of applied sciences degree in engineering and/or naval field
  • Strong technical knowledge of vessel operations and maintenance
  • Previous experience in project management with a proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Familiarity with ISM Code procedures and maritime regulations
  • A proactive and independent approach with a hands-on attitude
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to manage cross-functional relationships effectively
  • Strong IT skills, including confident use of the common MS Office products
  • Fluent English is mandatory, while proficiency in Finnish or Swedish is considered an asset

Additionally, the position requires ability to be accessible outside office hours and to be able to travel at short notice.
