Examensarbete: Carbon strip modelling using locomotive telemetry data
Green Cargo ABSammanfattning
This degree project focuses on carbon strip modelling using locomotive telemetry data to enhance maintenance practices for freight locomotives. The project aims to analyze maintenance records and telemetry data to understand carbon strip wear, with field measurements to compare different carbon strip thicknesses. The work can be conducted in Swedish and/or English and is based at the Green Cargo office in Stockholm.Det här erbjuder vi
Opportunity to work on a practical engineering problem in the rail industry.Gain experience with telemetry data analysis and predictive maintenance.Possibility to contribute to sustainability by reducing material waste.

Beskrivning
Carbon strip modelling using locomotive telemetry data
Background
For thread-braked freight locomotives, carbon strip wear and brake block wear are major maintenance concern. The condition of these components is critical for safe rail transport which in turn sets strict limits on the distance travelled between inspection.Hence, insight into the main driver affecting their lifespan would provide railway operators with valuable information to support condition-based or predictive maintenance. This would enable longer distance between inspection, better utilization of the components and less material waste. Most of Green Cargos electric locomotives have on-board systems that record the energy consumption and regeneration, current, voltage, speed and location. Key factors driving carbon strip wear and damage include the contact force in the carbon strip-catenary interface, power output, electrical arcing, and impacts from ice on the contact wire.
Problem description, tasks and goals
Use maintenance records to identify when the carbon strip was replaced. Combine telemetry data and maintenance data to model carbon strip wear. Perform field measurements of wear and crack-propagation on carbon strips. Compare the performance of different carbon strip thicknesses.
