Beskrivning

Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) is a small, independent Swedish university with a strong profile in applied, industry-relevant research and a focus on professionally oriented education. The Department of Industrial Economics invites applications for the Backhamre Professorship in Industrial Economics and Management - a professorship made possible by a donation intended to promote research into the drivers and significance of profitability, competitiveness, and entrepreneurship across the business sector.

Job description

For the Backhamre Professorship, we seek candidates that can further strengthen and develop our research and educational activities in Industrial Economics and Management. We are particularly interested in applicants with an international academic profile, and documented knowledge and experience at the intersection of internationalisation, entrepreneurship/business development, and technology development. Relevant research areas include, but are not limited to:
  • international business
  • technology-based entrepreneurship
  • innovation and technology management
  • entrepreneurial eco-systems

As a professor of this strategically important recruitment, you are primarily expected to take a leading role in shaping and advancing the department's research and internationalisation. These responsibilities include:
  • conducting and leading internationally recognised, high-quality research
  • securing external research funding in national and international competition
  • building, leading, and sustaining a strong and internationally visible research group
  • mentoring less experienced researchers
  • supervising doctoral students and contributing to the development of the doctoral education program.

In line with the department's interdisciplinary profile and collaborative focus, the position also involves active engagement across research groups and departments, as well as collaboration with industry, public sector and international partners to enhance the relevance and societal impact of research.

In addition to research, the position includes educational responsibilities, such as course coordination, teaching and supervision at bachelor's and master's levels. You are also expected to contribute actively to the development of high-quality education, including program and course development, as well as participating in international educational collaborations. The role also entails academic leadership responsibilities within the department and the wider university. The overall allocation of duties may vary over time depending on, for example, research funding and leadership assignments.

The responsibilities associated with the Backhamre professorship require a high level of on-campus presence to support personal interaction, collaboration, and academic dialogue.

Eligibility requirements

Eligible to be employed as a professor is a person who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skills. (HF Chapter 4, § 3).

Eligibility requirements and assessment criteria regarding scientific and pedagogical skills are described in detail in the "Guidelines for employment and promotion of teachers and appointment to docent at Blekinge Institute of Technology", available at: Vacancies | Blekinge Tekniska Högskola

Meriting competencies and experience

In addition to the requirements outlined in job description, eligibility requirements, and assessment guidelines, the following competencies and experiences are considered meritorious:
  • Documented research experience in the intersection of internationalisation, entrepreneurship/business development, and technology development.
  • Previous relevant professional experience within a university of technology, engineering faculty, or comparable academic environment.
  • Proven international academic experience and leadership, demonstrating the ability to initiate, drive and coordinate internationalisation efforts in research and education.
  • Documented experience of teaching and supervision at bachelor's and master's levels within the subject area of the position.
  • Experience in supporting the development of local and regional entrepreneurial ecosystems in collaboration with external partners.
  • Documented experience of industry collaboration, demonstrating the ability to build and sustain long-term partnerships.

Balance between qualifications

Scientific skill is valued in the first place and pedagogical skill in the second place. In addition, the degree of other skills that are important for the employment is considered.
