Are you an ophthalmologist looking to combine professional development with international experience in an English-speaking healthcare system?

On behalf of hospitals across Ireland, we are recruiting ophthalmologists across all subspecialties for positions lasting 12 or 24 months, with the possibility of extension. This is a unique opportunity to work in a modern healthcare system while broadening your clinical expertise and gaining valuable international experience.

Whether your background is in a specific subspecialty or general ophthalmology, you will become part of a collaborative clinical environment with a strong focus on quality of care and professional development.

About the position

As an ophthalmologist, you will be involved in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with a wide range of eye conditions. Depending on your background and the needs of the department, your role may include both outpatient and surgical work.

We are looking for specialists within all areas of ophthalmology, including but not limited to:

Retina (medical and surgical)

Glaucoma

Cornea and anterior segment

Cataract and refractive surgery

Pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus

Neuro-ophthalmology

Oculoplastic and orbital surgery

General ophthalmology

You will work closely with other specialists, nurses and healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary setting.

Typical responsibilities

Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with ophthalmic conditions

Performing surgical procedures relevant to your subspecialty

Outpatient consultations and follow-up of patients

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams

Supervision and mentoring of junior doctors where relevant

Contribution to quality improvement and clinical development within the department

Participation in on-call duties if required

We are looking for candidates who

Are specialists in ophthalmology

Hold medical authorisation and specialist recognition from an EU/EEA country

Have experience in one or more ophthalmology subspecialties (or general ophthalmology)

Have an interest in working in a new healthcare system

Have good English language skills, both spoken and written

Communicate clearly and confidently with patients and colleagues

Thrive in a professional and collaborative environment

We offer

Contract for 12 or 24 months, with the possibility of extension

Salary

Base salary depending on experience, typically around €233,000-€280,000 gross per year.
