If you are a PhD candidate interested in how science becomes companies, our Venture Fellowship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in venture capital while continuing your research.
You will work closely with our investment team to analyse emerging technologies, evaluate startups and explore new investment themes within your area of expertise.
The role
As a Venture Fellow, you will be embedded within our investment team and take on significant responsibility in our analysis process. You will contribute to our in-depth analyses of emerging scientific fields, technologies and markets depending on your area of expertise.
You will also have the opportunity to lead a landscape or thesis analysis within a domain related to your research, helping the team build a deeper understanding of new technologies and potential investment opportunities.
You will be assigned a senior mentor to provide guidance throughout the fellowship. The programme is designed to provide a practical introduction to venture capital and investing, while allowing you to apply your academic expertise in a real-world context and contribute to our investment decisions.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting in-depth analyses of emerging technologies, markets and investment themes
- Supporting the evaluation of early-stage startups and contributing to investment cases
- Leading a landscape or thesis analysis within a scientific area related to your research expertise
- Contributing to strategic, intelligence and research-driven initiatives
- Acting as a thought partner to the investment team
Who you are
- PhD candidate with strong domain expertise in a scientific field such as biochemistry, biomedical engineering, agriculture, food science, electronics, data science or similar
- Curious about how scientific discoveries translate into startups, technologies and venture-backed companies
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (excel, programming languages as a bonus) and experience in using AI tools in work-related settings
- Entrepreneurial mindset or interest in innovation, startups or technology commercialization
- Background in research, startups, industry or consulting is beneficial
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Highly analytical with the ability to evaluate complex technologies and synthesize insights clearly
- Excellent communication skills in English, preferably also in Swedish, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts
Practical details
- Full-time or part-time (flexible), with the possibility to combine with PhD studies
- Paid position
- Location: Stockholm, you'll be expected to be in the office a few days a week
- Duration: Flexible within 6-12 months
