Beskrivning

Do you want to shape the future of materials technology at a world-leading industrial company? As Senior R&D Manager, you lead Sandvik Coromant's Materials and Technology Development organization, translating customer needs and market insights into advanced cutting materials and cost-efficient production technologies.

Your mission

From early research to production-ready solutions, you lead the materials and coating development behind our coated carbide inserts and solid round tools. You decide which technologies to invest in and make sure new knowledge reaches products and production in a form that can scale.

This is a role where technical depth, commercial insight and strong people leadership are all essential. You lead the organization through a transformation toward becoming more customer-oriented, digitally enhanced, business-driven and faster in execution.

The location for this position is Västberga, Stockholm, Sweden.

Key responsibilities

Set and execute a market- and technology-driven strategy and roadmap for Materials and Technology Development, with sustainability embedded throughout.

Turn research into qualified building blocks and scalable technology platforms for product development and production.

Accelerate data-driven R&D through modelling, simulation, automation and modern experimental methods.

Build strategic partnerships across Sandvik to unlock synergies, and with customers, suppliers, universities, and research institutes to capture insights, access talent, and accelerate value creation.

Develop and maintain a strong intellectual property portfolio that protects competitive advantage.

Build critical current and future capabilities and lead the organization through transformation.

Lead site management and operations at the Västberga (Stockholm) site.

Join our new R&D leadership team

We're reshaping R&D at Sandvik Coromant into a simpler, faster and more customer-focused organization, built around the capabilities that matter most for the future of machining. As a member of the new R&D leadership team, reporting to the VP R&D, you help set the direction for the entire function, strengthen collaboration across teams and sites, and accelerate innovation. Together, we build a high-performing organization defined by curiosity, speed and impact.

Your profile

You bring senior leadership experience from industrial R&D, materials development, process technology or another technology-intensive environment. As a leader, you're strategic, inclusive and business-minded. You create clarity when priorities shift, build trust across an international network and develop teams that collaborate, share knowledge and keep improving. You make complex technical priorities easy to understand for both experts and decision-makers.

To thrive in this role, you also need:

An advanced degree in materials science, engineering, metallurgy, physics, chemistry, manufacturing technology or a related field. A PhD is an advantage.

Experience taking technology from research and validation through industrialization and production transfer.

Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing development.

Fluency in English, while Swedish is an advantage.

Experience in cemented carbides, coatings, powder metallurgy or cutting tools is highly valued.
