Beskrivning
The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a Researcher position at the Department of Physiology.
The researcher will work on a project aimed at establishing and optimizing long-term culture of human brain tissue as a platform for disease modelling and basic research in neurophysiology.
Duties
The work involves use of viral vectors for genetic modification of neurons and glial cells, preparation of brain slices from mouse and human tissue, handling of human cerebrospinal fluid, opto- and electrophysiology, as well as histology and imaging. The candidate is expected to lead the work of introducing the model in the laboratory, participate in teaching, and supervise master's students and doctoral students.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree in neuroscience with a specialization in neurophysiology and electrophysiology (patch clamp technique) is required. It is also required that the applicant is highly experienced in the design and use of genetically encoded tools for neuronal activity manipulation and imaging. Additional experience with genetic targeting of microglial cells is desirable. A strong ability to obtain/analyze/present data using these methods, as well as the capacity to work independently and write scientific papers, is important. Documented success in obtaining external research funding is an advantage, as is collaborations with other national and international research groups in the field. Previous experience of teaching and supervision in opto/electrophysiology and brain slice work is highly valued. Excellent oral and written proficiency in both English and Swedish are required.
Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 7 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as agreed on.
