At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology as well as Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology invites applications for a position as researcher at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience.

The research group conducts research in advanced medical image analysis with a particular focus on neuroimaging and brain tumours. The work includes the development and application of methods for image processing, data management, and statistical analysis of neuroimaging data in clinical research projects.

Duties

The position involves providing technical and methodological support to ongoing neuroimaging research projects. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Registration and normalization of MRI data to MNI space.
  • Structuring and organizing imaging data according to the BIDS standard.
  • Quality assurance and coordination of data processing and image segmentation activities.
  • Introduction and training of new staff members in imaging analysis and data management procedures.
  • Coordination of student assistants involved in data processing and segmentation tasks.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the research group's imaging pipelines.
  • Participation in research projects comparing different methods for brain mapping, including conventional univariate approaches and SCCAN-based methodologies.

The work will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers, doctoral students, and technical staff within the research group.

Qualifications

Required qualifications
  • A PhD degree in Engineering Mathematics, Medical Image Analysis, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or another field deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Documented experience in MRI data processing and image registration.
  • Experience in scientific programming and data analysis.
  • Good communication skills in spoken and written English.

Desirable qualifications
  • Experience working with brain tumour data
  • Experience with the BIDS standard and reproducible workflows.
  • Experience using neuroimaging software packages such as ANTs, FSL, FreeSurfer, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring students and research staff.
  • Experience with multivariate image analysis and lesion-symptom mapping.

Personal qualities

The successful candidate should be well organized, capable of working independently, and possess strong collaborative skills. As the position involves coordinating several parallel activities, excellent organizational abilities and a meticulous approach to work are essential. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is hourly based and limited (temporary) for 7 months. You will work on hours when needed. The employment is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
