Vascular surgery

Subject area description

Vascular surgery with a focus on clinical studies and intervention. In collaboration with other researchers at the department, promote translational studies in the field of cardiometabolic diseases.

Duties

The duties of the position include conducting long-term research in the subject area at a nationally and internationally competitive level. Furthermore, the employment holder must actively seek national and/or international external research grants.

The duties include teaching, course responsibility and examination in courses at, mainly, undergraduate and advanced level. Furthermore, supervision of students and doctoral students at all levels of education is included. The duties also include developing and coordinating learning outcomes, learning activities, pedagogical methods, forms of examination and assessment criteria.

The position holder will also perform other duties normally associated with a professorship, such as academic leadership with administrative duties and holding internal and external positions of trust. The position also includes collaboration with the surrounding community.

The clinical duties will be adapted to the organisation's needs for the intended employee's skills and experience.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

This position may be held only by a person who meets the eligibility requirements for both positions.

Eligibility for appointment as Professor requires both demonstrated research and pedagogical competence. A medical license and specialist certification in vascular surgery are mandatory requirements for the position.

The appointment is combined with a position as a Senior Consultant at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Consequently, in order to obtain a Swedish medical license, the applicant must, in accordance with the requirements of the National Board of Health and Welfare, possess the language proficiency necessary for the profession in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

In the assessment, research expertise and teaching expertise will be weighed equally and put first, and clinical expertise will be weighed second. In the assessment, administrative expertise and the ability to cooperate and collaborate will also be taken into account.

In assessing research expertise, particular emphasis shall be placed on the ability to conduct research in the subject area. Particular emphasis is also placed on peer-reviewed publications in international journals where scientific quality is prioritised over the quantity of production. The applicant must have demonstrated proficiency in initiating, planning, leading and developing research. The applicant must also demonstrate documented ability to obtain external research grants in competition. The ability to build international and national cooperation networks is particularly meritorious.

In assessing teaching expertise, particular emphasis will be placed on good ability to supervise, teach and examine in education at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level, as well as other pedagogical activities in the subject area. In the appointment, experience of planning in education and course responsibility will also be given weight. The expertise must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activities.

In assessing clinical expertise, special weight will be attached to documented experience of clinical work in the subject area as well as the ability to develop the clinical work and implement research in the clinic. Clinical competence that can be applied in teaching situations is particularly meritorious.

For administrative expertise, experience of clinical and academic leadership as well as the ability to collaborate and collaborate are meritorious. The applicants' personal qualities in being able to collaborate internally and externally to perform the tasks described will be taken into account when assessing suitability for the position.

Employment

Permanent employment, full-time 100 %. The position is located at The Institute of Medicine. First day of employment as agreed.

If the applicant does not have formal university pedagogical training at the University of Gothenburg, the applicant is expected to have completed university pedagogical training or acquired equivalent knowledge within one year of the employment date. The assessment of such university pedagogical merits shall be conducted in a special order in accordance with the decision ofthe Vice-Chancellor.
