Lecturer in Computer Science with a focus on Programming and Computer Systems Engineering

The Department of Computer Science (DIDA) is one of two departments in the Faculty of Computing. It is BTH's largest department, with just over 70 employees. The department conducts research in computer science, covering the subfields of big data and AI, parallel computer systems, visual and interactive computing, and security and distributed systems.

Work description

The position involves teaching at bachelor's and master's level in computer science, with a focus on practical components such as labs and projects. Supervision of students in the subject area, including degree projects, may also be included.

The position focuses on teaching and supervision in programming (object-oriented programming, algorithms and data structures, and databases, both relational and NoSQL) and in distributed systems and cloud computing (virtualisation and containerisation, cloud platforms, and data management and processing in cloud environments). Teaching in adjacent areas may also be expected.

The position may also include administrative tasks, further development of existing courses and development of new ones. Collaboration with the wider community is also part of the role.

International applicants must initially be able to teach in English. Applicants without good knowledge of Swedish are expected to acquire it and teach in Swedish within three years of employment.

Eligibility requirements

Eligible to be employed as a lecturer is a person who has:

• completed a university degree of at least 180 higher education credits or has equivalent
  competence or other skill that is important regarding the employment's subject content
  and the work tasks that shall be included in the employment,
• demonstrated pedagogical skills.

Meriting competencies and experience

In addition to the requirements described in the work description, eligibility requirements and assessment
criteria for the position, the following degrees, competencies and experiences are considered meriting:

• Documented teaching experience in programming and databases, and in distributed systems and cloud computing.
• Documented ability to teach operating systems.
• Documented ability to teach compiler construction.
• Knowledge of parallel programming.
• Experience of software development or cloud services in industry.
• Documented experience of course development in computer science.
• Good spoken and written Swedish and English.
