Job description: Let's introduce ourselves
At Volvo Cars, safety is at the core of everything we do. Within AD/ADAS Functions, we define and develop customer-facing functions that contribute to safer, more intuitive and trustworthy driver support systems. Our group has end-to-end ownership of several driver interaction functions, including visualization in the driver display and driver understanding functionalities. We are also responsible for harmonizing the AD/ADAS user experience across the vehicle. In AD/ADAS Functions, we define function intent, requirements and design in close collaboration with software development, system design, verification, safety and legal stakeholders. We work in a cross-functional environment where collaboration, quality and user value are central to how we shape future mobility.
What you'll do
We are now looking for a Function Designer with a focus on the interaction between the user and the ADAS system. This includes both high-fidelity information visualization for the user and a holistic understanding of user behavior. In this role, you will help shape and evolve our functions by translating user needs and use cases into clear, structured and safe functional designs that can be efficiently implemented and verified. You will contribute to creating user value, ensuring legal compliance and supporting rating fulfilment. Working closely with system designers, software developers, verification engineers, system safety experts and legal stakeholders, you will play an important role in securing quality and alignment across the full development lifecycle. In this role, you will:
Lead function design work in the driver-vehicle interaction domain, covering both HMI and interior perception function design from use cases to detailed function descriptions.
Define and manage functional requirements and interfaces.
Create and maintain required function documentation, such as function descriptions and requirement specifications.
Work closely with software developers to support implementation and clarify functional intent.
Ensure alignment with VPDS, system safety and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to cross-functional alignment between UX, ADAS and ConX.
What you'll bring
You are a structured and analytical function designer or system designer who enjoys working in a complex, cross-functional environment. You have a strong interest in user interaction, driver support systems and safe, compliant function development. We believe you have:
A master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
At least two years of experience in function design, system design or a similar role.
Experience in requirements engineering and functional design, from use case to function description.
A good understanding of software development and experience working hands-on with data analytics.
Knowledge of VPDS and system safety.
The ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different technical areas.
It is also meritorious if you have experience from AD/ADAS or driver understanding systems, safety-critical systems, or vehicle data flows, signals and backend interaction. At Volvo Cars, you will have the opportunity to work with advanced technology in an environment where safety, trust and continuous improvement are central values. You will be part of a collaborative culture where your contribution makes a real difference for our customers and society.
