Engineering Manager

At Airpelago, we are pioneering the inspection of power grids with drones. We combine modern drone technology, proprietary software, and expertise in drone regulations to help grid owners inspect and get insights about their assets, which our society is dependent on. As we continue to scale, we are seeking a people-focused Engineering Manager to lead and develop our growing engineering team.

Your mission

You will create an environment where autonomous engineers can do their best work. You will coach individuals, develop the team, lead hiring and onboarding, strengthen our culture, and continuously improve how engineering operates. As the organization grows, you will help shape technical strategy, turn decisions into executable plans, and introduce clear structures while preserving ownership and speed.

The team

Today, our engineering team consists of 12 members across our headquarters in Gothenburg and our Stockholm office. It currently brings together Software Engineers and a Product Manager, with the clear ambition to broaden the team with additional specialized roles moving forward.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop engineers through effective 1:1s and regular feedback.

• Own people management, performance development and team health.

• Lead engineering recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning.

• Design an organization that scales from today's team toward 15+ people.

• Improve engineering processes, tools and collaboration while keeping them lightweight.

• Identify and remove blockers and bottlenecks.

• Drive technical strategy together with the CTO and senior engineers.

• Translate strategic technical decisions into practical plans and execution.

• Establish clear ownership across teams, domains and technical leads.

• Partner closely with Product on prioritization, planning and delivery.

• Strengthen engineering culture and contribute to the Stockholm office community.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience leading and developing software engineers, ideally within an international, fast-growing scale-up.

• A technical background, ideally as a software engineer.

• Experience scaling teams and introducing structure without excessive bureaucracy.

• Strong coaching, listening and communication skills.

• Ability to make clear decisions while involving the people closest to the work.

• Experience leading complex technical initiatives from direction through implementation, with a pragmatic and business-minded approach.

• Full proficiency in Swedish and English, both written and verbal.

Active coding experience is not a strict requirement, but highly beneficial. Leadership maturity, technical judgment, and the ability to help others succeed matter more than being the strongest individual contributor.
