Digital Design Engineer (FPGA)
📍 Location: Gothenburg, Sweden

We are now looking for an experiencedDigital Design Engineer (FPGA)to join our Welding Process & Research team in Gothenburg. In this role, you will contribute to the development of next-generation FPGA platforms for ESAB's welding systems, working closely with embedded software, power electronics, and system engineering teams in an international and highly collaborative environment.
Your responsibilities:
As a Digital Design Engineer (FPGA), you will:
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of FPGA-based solutions from concept through implementation, verification, and production support
• Participate in FPGA architecture and system partitioning together with the FPGA team
• Develop VHDL designs that meet functional and real-time requirements and are suitable for production use
• Support the development of test benches for the functions developed
• Collaborate actively within the FPGA team, including design reviews, problem solving, and knowledge sharing
• Work cross-functionally with embedded software, power electronics, and welding process teams to support system integration and performance
• Take part in verification and validation activities, including simulation, hardware bring-up, and laboratory testing
• Apply engineering best practices to support quality, reliability, and consistency in FPGA solutions
• Contribute to continuous improvement of FPGA platforms, tools, and ways of working
• Develop next-generation FPGA platforms for ESAB's welding systems, contributing to architecture, design, and implementation
Your profile:
We believe you have:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Embedded Systems, Digital Design, FPGA/VHDL, or a related discipline
• Several years of experience in FPGA and embedded product development
• Strong hands-on experience with FPGA design and VHDL
• Ability to contribute to technical solutions across multiple phases of the product lifecycle
• Experience working in hardware-software co-development environments
• Familiarity with laboratory and debug equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG)
• Experience working in cross-functional, team-based development
• Knowledge of power electronics or signal processing is a merit
• Excellent English communication skills
