About the role
As Customs Manager, you will lead and further develop VAROPreem's Swedish customs function, ensuring compliant and efficient customs operations while serving as a trusted advisor to the business. You will lead a team of customs professionals, drive governance and continuous improvement initiatives, and support strategic business developments from a customs perspective.
Based in Stockholm, this role combines strategic leadership with operational excellence and offers the opportunity to shape the future customs agenda within a highly regulated international environment.

As VAROPreem operates within critical infrastructure, a background screening as well as alcohol and drug testing will be conducted prior to any employment offer. During the interview process, candidates must be able to present a valid form of identification, such as a passport or national identity card, alternatively a population registration certificate together with a valid driving licence.
As parts of VAROPreem's operations are subject to security-sensitive regulations, a security clearance, including a background check through official registers, may be required depending on the position. Any such security screening will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Swedish Security Protection Act.

- Lead, develop, and coordinate the Swedish Customs team.
- Ensure compliant customs operations and governance across the business.
- Provide expert advice on customs, import/export, and trade compliance matters.
- Maintain and develop customs procedures in line with Swedish Customs Authority and AEO requirements.
- Drive process improvements, digitalization, and customs governance initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with authorities, customs brokers, and stakeholders.
- Support business projects and operational changes from a customs perspective.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely implementation within the business.

Requirements
We believe you bring:
- A relevant university degree in Law, Business, Economics, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience within customs, indirect tax, or international trade compliance gained from a multinational company, advisory firm, or the Swedish Customs Authority.
- Proven leadership experience, either through formal people management or leading specialist teams.
- Strong expertise in customs compliance, governance, and international trade regulations.
- Experience with AEO requirements, process improvements, digitalization, and external customs service providers.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience from the energy sector, refining, chemicals, or another highly regulated industry is an advantage.
- Excellent Swedish and English language skills.
