Clinical Trial Manager to Karolinska University Hospital

Join an international research collaboration at the forefront of reconstructive surgery and post amputation pain. As Clinical Trial Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating two international clinical trials across leading research hospitals, working at the intersection of clinical research, bionics and prosthetics.

About the employment

The position is attached to the international research project International Study on Surgical Reconstruction for Post-Amputation Pain, funded by the Promobilia Foundation.

The project comprises two parallel randomized controlled trials comparing two reconstructive nerve surgery techniques, Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) and Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (RPNI), for the treatment and prevention of pain after amputation.

The studies are coordinated from Karolinska University Hospital and conducted in collaboration with nine leading international hospitals, including the Prometei Pain Rehabilitation Center in Ukraine and collaborating surgeons and research teams in Italy, the USA, Australia, Canada, Chile, and the UK.

The research spans the fields of reconstructive surgery, bionics, prosthetics, and post-amputation pain.
The Clinical Trial Manager will:
  • Coordinate data collection from participating international sites in accordance with the trials' ethics approvals and applicable quality standards, including ISO 14155 where applicable.
  • Serve as a liaison between the coordinating center at Karolinska University Hospital and participating international clinical and research sites.
  • Support and coordinate biannual monitoring activities across participating sites.
  • Contribute to ethics applications, amendments, and study documentation as the project develops.
  • Contribute to data management and statistical analysis together with the project's statistician.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, reports, and conference presentations.
  • Support the overall coordination and documentation of the international clinical trials.
The position is a 15% fixed-term project employment, externally funded by the Promobilia Foundation, within the project International Study on Surgical Reconstruction for Post-Amputation Pain. The planned project period is 2026-2029.

Qualifications

Required:
  • An MSc in biomedical engineering, clinical research, or a closely related field.
  • Documented experience with clinical study documentation, research protocols, ethics applications, or related clinical research activities.
  • Knowledge of relevant clinical research quality and regulatory frameworks, such as ISO 14155 and/or the Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
  • Documented research experience in bionics and/or pain related to sensorimotor impairment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Preferred:
  • Research experience in prosthetics and bionics, including myoelectric pattern recognition, prosthetic control, and/or electrical stimulation related to osseointegrated prostheses.
  • Proficiency in quantitative methods and data analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or R.
  • A track record of scientific writing and publication.
  • Experience with cross-institutional and international research collaboration, for example through research projects, exchange programs, or collaborations with other universities.
  • Additional languages relevant to the project's international collaborations, for example Italian.
