Why this role, why now
We are supporting a Nordic biotechnology scale-up operating within advanced cell therapy (ATMP). The company combines GMP-certified manufacturing with a dual-track model, where patient-funded clinical use runs in parallel with formal clinical development.

With several hundred patients already treated, a Phase 2B programme commencing, and an expanding international footprint across multiple regions, the organisation is entering a pivotal scale-up phase where medical leadership will be decisive for future credibility, focus and growth.
The mandate
This is not a traditional pharma CMO role.
The Chief Medical Officer will set the medical strategy with real trade-offs, lead clinical evidence generation, and build medical and clinical trust in markets where responsible access to advanced therapies is possible today.

The role carries end-to-end ownership of medical strategy and governance and involves shaping - not inheriting - the medical function in a growing organisation.
What you will lead
  • Medical strategy & prioritisation
Define which indications, markets and evidence investments to pursue - and which not to pursue - translating strategy into a board-aligned, milestone-driven plan.
  • Clinical evidence & medical credibility
Oversee clinical trials and real-world data initiatives; act as the chief medical authority for quality, ethics and patient safety; engage with KOLs and clinical partners.
  • Clinical adoption in priority markets
Build peer-to-peer clinical trust with physicians, clinic owners and healthcare leaders through credible medical dialogue and cultural fluency.
  • Benefit-risk communication & medical education
Establish a governed, compliant medical education and content function; communicate precise, transparent benefit-risk profiles across diverse regulatory environments.
  • Regulatory navigation
Operate within tissue-establishment and evolving ATMP frameworks globally (including conditional and compassionate pathways), without compromising GMP or patient safety.
  • Medical team & operating model
Build and lead a lean medical organisation; establish scalable processes, governance and decision frameworks; work closely with cross-functional leadership.
What success looks like (12-18 months)
  • A clearly defined, board-aligned medical strategy with explicit trade-offs and milestones
  • Clinical programmes progressing as planned, including structured real-world data generation
  • Recognised medical credibility and named clinical relationships in key international markets
  • A compliant medical education engine actively used by clinical partners
  • A strong medical team with clear roles and effective ways of working
Your profile
  • MD strongly preferred (PhD considered with equivalent scientific authority and external credibility)
  • Experience within cell therapy / MSC / ATMP highly meritorious
  • Background from both structured organisations and resource-constrained scale-ups
  • Strong medical judgement, strategy-to-execution capability and low-ego leadership style
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to build genuine clinical trust
  • Comfortable operating across multiple international markets
  • Alignment with a dual-track model (patient-funded clinical use alongside clinical development) is essential
What the company offers
  • A rare opportunity to define the medical identity of a fast-scaling cell therapy company
  • Significant strategic influence and executive-level responsibility
  • Competitive compensation with meaningful equity
  • A mission-driven culture where scientific rigour, ethics and patient value are central
