The role
We're looking for a skilled, driven and experienced Backend Developer to join our team of creators, constantly raising the benchmark on expense management. Though working behind the scenes, our backend developers have a significant impact not only on our business success, but also on the success of our partners.

Our department is organised into seven small, fast-moving Scrum teams, each with a clear focus and high degree of ownership. We are currently looking for someone to join our AI team, where you will help build and maintain the capabilities that power intelligent automation across our expense platform. This includes our self-hosted LLMs, vector search and machine learning models.

Simply put, our ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with curiosity and a genuine interest in AI, LLMs and modern machine learning technologies.

What you will do

• Take ownership of day-to-day development within a fast-moving Scrum team
• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable and reliable backend services for AI-driven capabilities
• Develop and integrate LLM-based features into our platform
• Work with vector databases and embedding-based search solutions to enable intelligent data retrieval
• Build and expose APIs and services that enable other teams to consume AI-generated insights and capabilities
• Improve and evolve our AI infrastructure, with a focus on performance, reliability and scalability
• Collaborate closely with other engineers, product managers, QA and stakeholders to deliver high-quality AI-powered solutions
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape the long-term direction of our AI-powered expense platform
• Stay up to date with developments in LLMs, ML engineering and AI tooling, and apply them where they add real value

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of software development principles and design patterns
• At least 3 years of experience in Java or similar backend languages
• Good knowledge of relational databases and data modelling
• Experience building applications using LLMs in production contexts, including prompt engineering for reliable outputs
• Practical experience working with machine learning models or AI-based classification systems
• Practical experience building real-time similarity search and data indexing solutions for large datasets
• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code, Windsurf or similar) to improve productivity
• Hands-on and proactive, with the ability to take on complex challenges
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and communication skills
