Your opportunity
As a strategic rock mechanics engineer, you will have a role in preparing Garpenberg for its future as a productive, sustainable and safe mining operation. Youwillbe part of the long-term technical servicesteam which is working on themid- tolong-term planning of Garpenbergoperationsregardingbothspatial extension of mining footprint and ore tonnage production. This needs to be done in a way that is efficient and ensures long term stability, even at higher mining rates and greater depths. It is an excellent opportunity if you want to further develop your own and Garpenberg's long-term approach to rock mechanics and strategic mine development and contribute to one of Europe's largest mine expansions.
Who you will work with
You will be part of a dedicatedengineeringteam within theLong-term planning section within theGarpenbergMine organization. This section comprises of mine geology, rock mechanics, long- and mid-term planning and mine infrastructure. You will worktogether with our geotechnical team of 6geotechnicalengineers andtechnicians, collaborating closelyshort-termmine planning,geology departments,production technologyspecialistsandothertechnicalservicedepartmentsat theGarpenbergmine.
Your work will also involve interaction with consultants and other technical experts across Boliden's operations.TheGeotechnicalnetwork in the Boliden Minesis geographically distributed,butyou will have regular opportunities for knowledge sharing and joint problem-solving in cross-functional projects.Thegeotechnical departmentat the Boliden Mines Staffiscomposed ofnumerousgeotechnical engineers, seniors andspecialistsfrom various nationalities whichinstillsaunique, welcomingculturethat caters for a thrivingenvironment.

What you will do
- WorkwithourMine planning engineerswithinLong-term planningand providegeotechnical input into LOMP designsand sequencesas well as to our mid-range planning horizon
- Conduct geotechnical risk assessment of LOMPand Budgetplansincluding stope dimensions, mining sequence, infrastructureplacementsand ground support designs
- Support numerical stress modelling and geotechnical analysis for mine design and planning
- Work closely together with exploration and mine geology to develop a geotechnicalblock model and routines tomaintainit
- Support the development of our understanding of rock mechanics, to include for example structural geology, hydrogeology or seismology
- Optimize economic extraction of resources within the requirements of mine stability and safety
- Explain rock mechanics strategy to the wider mine organization and other stakeholders
- Participate in research and development initiatives focused on rock mechanics and mining innovation
- Provide technical guidance and support effective collaboration across the organization
- A master's degree in geotechnical and/or mining engineering
- Experience with underground hard-rock mining
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to explain complex concepts clearly andproficiencywith relevant software
- Strong computer skills,includingexperience with CADsoftware,preferablyDeswikand other technicalapplications
- Good communication skills and the ability towritetechnical reports and communicate results to stakeholders
- Flexibility and openness to varying work assignments
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in Swedish, or a willingness to learn this quickly
- Valid B-class driver's license
- Advanced numerical modelling experience using the ITASCA suite
- Experience with seismic monitoring using theIMS suite andmXrap
- Experience with deep, seismically active undergroundsublevelstopingmines
- Experience with feasibility studies and/or expansion projects
