About the role

As a Software Engineer at Avanza, you will be a key contributor in an exciting technology journey. We have embarked on a major cloud transformation to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Our goal is clear: by 2030, we aim to be predominantly cloud-based, and during 2026 we are significantly accelerating the pace.

You will be part of one of our 45 autonomous teams, working closely with your Product Manager and designers. Our teams work with Order Management Systems, streaming data, high transaction volumes, data-driven development, and Machine Learning. Depending on which team you join, your day-to-day work could range from further developing our high-performance on-premises environment to building new solutions in the cloud. You will have the opportunity to help define the standards for how we model data and build scalable services in a modern cloud environment. For teams managing core infrastructure or critical systems, rotating on-call duty is a natural part of taking full operational ownership.

Your technical environment

We are moving from an architecture built around Gigaspaces and internal platforms towards a modern, cloud-based technology stack. You will work with:

• Java as the primary language for our microservices.

• GCP as our future home, where we build for high availability and scalability.

• Modern cloud data modeling, using Google Spanner for application data and BigQuery for data warehousing.

• Communication via gRPC and event-driven flows using Kafka.

• AI-assisted development, leveraging modern tools to explore and set standards for future engineering workflows.

We are looking for someone who loves solving problems and wants to build systems that make a difference for more than two million customers. As an engineer, you enjoy sharing your knowledge and are motivated by the challenge of migrating complex systems to the cloud.

We believe that you

• Have at least 4 years of relevant professional experience

• Have solid experience building and maintaining distributed systems and APIs in Java

• Have experience developing and deploying services in a cloud environment (Cloud Native)

• Are curious about AI-assisted development and eager to explore how modern AI tools can enhance our daily work

It is a plus if you have

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Experience with cloud-based databases such as Google Spanner and/or analytical platforms such as BigQuery, preferably with dbt for data transformation

• Experience with our current technology stack (e.g. Gigaspaces or similar in-memory solutions) to help us bridge the gap between on-premises and the cloud

• Experience working with event-driven architecture (Kafka)
