About Deep Forestry

At Deep Forestry, we are rewriting the rules of forestry management. We build autonomous, deep-tech drone systems capable of navigating dense, complex forest environments to acquire, process, and deliver high-fidelity spatial data. From heavy-duty hardware prototyping and edge-computed SLAM to commercial cloud portals, we own our entire stack.

To date, Deep Forestry's drones have completed over 1000 autonomous flights beneath the canopy in forests across multiple continents. The system measures stem diameter with a mean absolute error of 1.6 cm against harvester measurements along the full length of the stem, independently verified by a third-party government forestry authority.

The Role

As a Robotics Systems Engineer, you will help integrate, calibrate, optimize, and deploy the onboard software stack that powers our autonomous drones. You'll work across perception, navigation, autonomy, and hardware to ensure the entire system works together reliably on embedded computing platforms.

A key part of the role is bringing together multiple sensors into a well-integrated system. This includes developing and maintaining sensor calibration workflows, ensuring accurate spatial alignment and synchronization, and helping build a robust platform that performs reliably in demanding real-world environments.

You'll work closely with perception, autonomy, and hardware engineers to turn advanced robotics algorithms into production-ready systems that fly every day.

Responsibilities

Integrate new software components into our onboard robotics platform.

Develop and improve sensor calibration workflows, including extrinsic calibration between cameras, LiDARs, IMUs, GNSS, and other sensors.

Help ensure sensors remain well-calibrated and synchronized throughout development and deployment.

Deploy and maintain software on NVIDIA Jetson and other embedded Linux platforms.

Improve onboard performance by optimizing CPU, GPU, memory usage, and communication between software components.

Design and maintain ROS2-based system architectures and deployment pipelines.

Package and release software for production deployments.

Diagnose and resolve system integration, performance, and reliability issues.

Collaborate across perception, autonomy, hardware, and field teams to continuously improve the platform.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone with experience in robotics software and a passion for building reliable autonomous systems. You don't need to tick every box below - we value curiosity, practical problem solving, and a willingness to learn.

Ideally, you have experience with several of the following:

C++ and/or Python development.

ROS2 (or solid ROS1 experience with an interest in ROS2).

Robotics software running on Linux.

Multi-sensor systems and sensor calibration.

Embedded computing platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson.

Performance optimization and debugging.

Multi-threaded or distributed software systems.

Deploying software onto real robotic systems.

Nice to have

It's great if you've also worked with some of these:

Precise sensor synchronization (PTP, PPS, hardware timestamps, trigger signals, etc.).

Docker, CI/CD, or automated deployment workflows.

NVIDIA Jetson optimization.

Autonomous drones or mobile robots.

Calibration tools or automated calibration pipelines.

DDS, networking, shared memory, or real-time communication.

ROS1 → ROS2 migration.

Integrating sensors such as cameras, LiDARs, IMUs, GNSS, or flight controllers.

If you're excited about this role but don't meet every qualification, we'd still love to hear from you. We know great engineers come from a wide range of backgrounds.

Why Deep Forestry?

Real Deep-Tech: Work on a real, physical product combining advanced robotics, custom hardware, and cutting-edge cloud infrastructure.

High Autonomy: Join a flat, agile team of top-tier experts where your voice directly shapes the product and architecture.

Impact: Help transform an analog industry into a data-driven, sustainable future.
