Beskrivning

Do you want to contribute to the green transition and make a real difference? As a researcher with us, you will work on an exciting portfolio of projects focused on evaluating and verifying emerging technologies that can help create a more sustainable and competitive Sweden.

About us The Sustainable Processes and Systems unit is part of the Biorefinery and Energy department within the Bioeconomy division. We design and evaluate processes and systems for sustainable, bio-based chemicals and fuels, with a focus on areas such as CCUS, power-to-X, thermochemical processes, recycling, and industrial transformation.

Our core expertise lies in process modelling, optimisation, and evaluation, as well as techno-economic analysis. Our expertise also extends to systems analysis, LCA, and project management. By combining technical expertise with a systems perspective and an understanding of business needs, we work closely with industry, academia, and the public sector to develop and advance new technologies.

About the role As a Researcher, you will be responsible for leading and carrying out specific project activities, as well as managing smaller research projects. You will independently deliver input and results to projects, contribute to analyses and reports, and represent RISE in contacts with customers and partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Modelling chemical and energy engineering processes, such as carbon capture, e-fuel production, and thermochemical processes.

• Conducting techno-economic analyses of these processes.

• Performing applied systems analyses.

• Leading, structuring, and coordinating project activities or smaller projects.

• Contributing to the development of the unit's portfolio of research projects and commercial projects.

You will also contribute to developing new project ideas and proposals, participate in customer meetings, and gradually build your professional network. Over time, you will develop new customer relationships and partnerships and contribute to securing grants and other funding for the unit.

The position is based in Gothenburg, Stockholm, or Lund. The role involves travel within Sweden a few times per year and approximately once a year within the EU.

Who are you? We are looking for someone who is independent, structured, and analytical, with the ability to take ownership of your work and drive it forward. At the same time, you are attentive and collaborative and enjoy working with others. You build strong relationships easily and create trust in your collaborations. Through customer dialogue and your interest in applied research, you identify opportunities for new ideas, partnerships, and projects that can strengthen the unit's business and project portfolio over time.

As a person, you are curious, driven, and committed to the work you take on. You are also a confident communicator who can structure complex technical information and communicate results effectively.

Requirements

• PhD in energy engineering, chemical engineering, or another relevant field

• Experience in process modelling using Aspen Plus or equivalent software

• Experience conducting techno-economic analyses

• Experience in programming with Python and/or MATLAB, or other relevant software for modelling, data analysis, or process calculations

• Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with a strong ability to independently analyse, structure, and communicate technical results.

• Good proficiency in Microsoft Office

• Experience with processes related to CCUS, e-fuels, biorefineries, thermochemical conversion, or industrial transformation.

Merits

• Expertise in LCA

• Expertise in systems analysis

• Experience using artificial intelligence and machine learning in process design, optimization and evaluation.

• Experience in project and business development

• Experience working in research or development projects involving multiple stakeholders.

• Good spoken and written Swedish
