Beskrivning

Are you driven by research, innovation, and excited about challenges in the Swedish and European electric power systems? Are you analytical, inquisitive, and enjoying meeting new people? Then we have a position for you!

About Us At the Electric Power Systems unit, our project portfolio consists of research and innovation projects that combine technical perspectives - how electric power systems should be built, managed, and operated - and economic perspectives, including the development of the electricity market, regulation, and policy issues. In addition to our research projects, we also handle various customer assignments. Our projects range from short-term to multi-year engagements, often in collaboration with colleagues from other units within RISE as well as external national or international partners.

Our team comprises 14 researchers, engineers, and project managers who enjoy collaborating. We represent several different nationalities, and our projects extend both within and outside Sweden's borders. Half of the team is based in Gothenburg and the other half in Stockholm. The location for this position is either Gothenburg or Stockholm.

About the Electric Power System The electric power system plays a central role in the transformation of the Swedish energy system. A key factor driving this is the electrification of the industrial and transport sectors. RISE contributes to this development with analyses and solutions through creating and executing research, innovation, and development projects in collaboration with companies, universities, institutes, and the public sector.

About the Role We are now looking for an experienced researcher who wants to help strengthen RISE's ability to execute, create, and drive projects that address the challenges of electric power system stability and resilience.

Being a part of such projects offers an opportunity to get involved in a wide range of tasks, including:

- Ideas creation through individual and team work - which problems are relevant?

- Method development - how to solve the problem?

- Project application development - how to attract experts around the formalized project idea and obtain the funding for it?

- Power systems modeling and simulation - how to design relevant test systems and execute adequate simulations?

- Detailed analysis of the observed simulation or analytical results - why do we get certain results and which ones are relevant?

- Project management - how to organize the project resources?

- Reporting results - how to adequately document the results through writing technical reports and scientific articles?

- Networking and presenting through various meetings, seminars, conferences, etc. - how to spread the important results and messages?

The role provides opportunities to delve into new areas and develop project ideas and collaborations to improve both the short- and long-term technical functionality of the power system, enabling the green energy transition.

Who Are You? As a person, you are analytical, creative, and open to new challenges. Being able to independently carry out tasks and projects comes naturally to you. The work will involve a variety of contacts with external project partners and customers, so it is important that you are outgoing and enjoy working in a customer-oriented manner.

You have a good understanding of future societal challenges and various stakeholders, as well as the need for research and innovation that exists now and in the future regarding the electric power system.

Requirements:

• Academic power systems degree and experience (1. or 2.):

1. PhD (or will defend your dissertation within the next 6 months)

2. MSc with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

• Power System Stability expertise: In-depth knowledge in electric power systems with a specific focus on the domain of stability and control. Particularly, it is required to have an exceptional understanding of the system dynamics and state-of-the-art challenges and opportunities under significant penetration of inverter-based technology. It is a big plus if a person has domain knowledge of modeling and stability analyses of HVDC, FACTS, BESS, and RES systems.

• Simulation tools: Experience with power system simulation tools and working on different RMS and/or EMT studies through academic and commercial software. Experience with software such as PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD, MATLAB (Simulink), EMTP is desirable and a big plus. Additionally, experience with real-time simulations is advantageous.

• Soft skills: Good communication and presentation skills in English. The ability to engage in discussions in creating and constructively evaluating project ideas and results.

• Programming: Experience in utilizing programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, Julia, C++, etc.) for better work efficiency, presentation of results, and automation of processes for various stability and dynamic performance studies, and optimization of power system operation and control.

• Recognized professional network: Experience with research and/or industry projects, applications, and interaction with stakeholders in the power system field.

Welcome with Your Application! For more information, please contact the recruiting manager, Maria Edvall, Head of Electric Power Systems Unit, at maria.edvall@ri.se. The last application date is September 8. Selection and interviews will be conducted continuously during and after the application period.

Our union representatives are Ingemar Petermann, SACO, 010-2284122 och Linda Ikatti, Unionen 010-5165161.
