Work assignments
The position will be part of an interdisciplinary project with the aim of manufacturing new electronic medicines for Parkinson's disease. Your tasks will consist of organic synthesis of optoelectronic ligands with different optical properties, and the ligands should also be able to interact with different types of biomolecules and also be able to be linked to different molecular building blocks using click chemistry. The project is carried out in collaboration between different disciplines within chemistry, physics and medicine and in collaboration with national and international research groups, which requires interdisciplinary collaboration.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree - such as taking statutory leave - then these may be taken into consideration.
We are looking for someone with a solid background in organic synthesis of molecules for biological and medical applications. We want you to have:
a PhD in organic chemistry
a documented skill in organic synthesis with a focus on the synthesis of thiophene-, benzimidazole- and indole-based small molecules
master various synthesis techniques, such as Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling, Buchwald-Hartwig Cross Coupling Reaction and various types of click chemistry
experience in using a range of measurement methods, such as NMR, HPLC, masspectrometry, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy
good collaboration skills and can speak and write fluently in english
It is an advantage if you have:
experience from working in interdisciplinary research environments together with researchers from other scientific disciplines
experience in synthesizing optoelectronic heterocyclic compounds
The workplace
You will work at the Chemistry Division, which is located within the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) at Linköping University. The goal of the Chemistry Division is to conduct high-quality research and teaching at the national and international top level. The department has about 50 employees and you will work in Peter Nilsson's research group in the field of organic chemistry.

The employment
This employment is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years.
The employment is full-time.
