CFD analysis: methodology for calibration of thermal modelling of battery electric vehicle component
Om jobbet
Introduction:
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.
Background:
The input data and boundary conditions in a thermal CFD analysis is rarely 100% known. Parameters often have to be approximated or estimated. To increase the confidence of the output of a certain simulation method, these parameters have to be calibrated to test results from example cases.
Objective:
The purpose of the thesis work is to implement and evaluate structured ways to consistently and reliably calibrate a thermal CFD analysis to match test data.
Job description:
Measurements will be available on different configurations of high power automotive cables under electric load, free hanging horizontally in calm air.
Education/program/focus:
Suitable for program: Mechanical engineering, Engineering physics or similar
Number of students: 1
Start date for the thesis work: beginning of 2026
Estimated time required: 20 weeks
Contact persons and supervisors:
Daniel Ekenberg, Development Engineer, phone: 070-0813133, email: daniel.ekenberg@scania.com

- Create CFD models representing the measurements.
- Study data fitting methods.
- Sort out data fitting methods that may be suitable for more or less automatic simulation model calibration.
- Implement and evaluate these methods with respect to accuracy, speed, ease of implementation etc.
- If time allows, evaluate one of the best suitable methods on a different problem
