As a Staff Scientist, you will become part of a professional research environment where your specialist competence contributes to the quality and continuity of ongoing scientific work. In this role, you are expected to support research activities with your expertise and to work closely with colleagues and research leaders to help maintain and support the development of the research environment.
This position is placed at the Geometry Assurance and Robust Design research group at Chalmers. We work with development of advanced simulation methods for variation simulation, tolerancing and robustness analysis. We have an internationally strong academic position and a large industrial network. You will support the group with method development to improve speed and accuracy in variation simulation for different materials and applications, and contribute to the group's work in ongoing research projects.
About the division and department
The research goup Geometry Assurance and Robust Design belongs to the Division of Product Development at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The division of Product Development conducts research and education in innovative and sustainable product realisation. We combine technology, design and user perspectives to create the products and solutions of the future. Your responsibilities
As a Staff Scientist, you will provide advanced scientific, technical, and methodological support to strengthen research activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the research group with expert knowledge in methods, techniques, and instruments
- Developing and implementing scientific methods and instrumentation
- Contributing to research infrastructures through technical and methodological service
- Collaborating closely with research leaders to meet the needs of ongoing projects
- Applying for external funding that supports and enhances research activities (not for building an independent research group)
- Support the research group with simulation capabilities in variation simulation to predict geometrical variation and deviation
- The focus is depending on the ongoing research projects, but to start with a special focus will be on AM, remanufacturing and the inclusion of residual stress.
Qualifications and merits
To qualify for this position, you should have:
- A doctoral degree in a relevant field
- At least two years of experience as post doctoral researcher
- Solid knowledge in material science, residual stress, tolerancing and finite element analysis, as well as in manufacturing processes such as AM, welding and megacasting
- Proficiency in written and spoken English (Swedish language courses are offered.)
The following qualifications are considered meritorious:
- Peer-reviewed publications in leading journals
- Knowledge in the software RD&T.
Contract terms
This is a full-time permanent position.
