We are seeking a strategic and hands-on R&D Director within pharmaceutical development and production to take overall responsibility for leading and developing the company's research and development resources. In this key leadership role, you will oversee all R&D activities and ensure that the function delivers high scientific quality, operational efficiency, and strong alignment with the company's long-term goals.

As R&D Director, you will be part of the management team and report directly to the CEO. You will play a central role in driving the company forward, both by developing the R&D organization and by contributing to strategic decisions at company level. We are looking for someone with energy, drive, and a proactive mindset who can identify internal opportunities, strengthen the business focus within R&D, and bring strong external commercial insight into the organization. You are sharp, forward leaning, and passionate about competence development, continuous improvement, and delivering results.

Main responsibilities

• Lead and develop the company's research and development function, including personnel, laboratories, and methods

• Contribute to the strategic direction and continuous improvement of both R&D and the broader organization as a member of the management team

• Ensure efficient R&D operations and drive projects from early development through full-scale manufacturing

• Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for new and existing products, ensuring scalability and compliance with safety and environmental standards

• Oversee analytical development, including method creation and validation to support product development, process optimization, and tech transfer

• Support Quality Control with technical expertise and ensure smooth transfer of analytical methods into routine use

Qualifications

• PhD in organic chemistry or other related discipline

• Solid experience in leading R&D with both strategic and hands-on responsibility

• Proven ability to drive improvements and attract projects

• Strong, energetic leader with a focus on team and competence development

• Business-minded with a clear understanding of how R&D supports overall company goals

• Experience with process development, analytical methods, and tech transfer

• Used to working cross-functionally with production, QC, and external partners

• Good knowledge of regulatory frameworks and GMP
