Chalmers University of Technology
Postdoc in Bio-polymer Based Electrolytes
Om jobbet
Join us at the Division of Applied Chemistry, Department of Chemistry and Chemical engineering, and help advance knowledge in the field of electrolytes based on bio-polymers.About us
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering pushes the knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering forward in a broad field of research and education. We offer an international environment, with scientific areas ranging from fundamental chemistry, health and medical technology, materials science, renewable energy, to chemical engineering processing, material recycling, nuclear chemistry, theory and modelling.
At the division of Applied Chemistry, we primarily focus on applied research, that is, research aimed at addressing societal challenges and that is ready for implementation either immediately or in the near future. Examples of application areas include fossil-free fuels and energy systems, electronic devices, health and technology, the utilisation of fibres and forest-based materials, and various forms of catalysis.
About the research project
Our team is searching for a curious and productive postdoctoral fellow, interested in doing research on bio-polymer based electrolytes. In particular, while the composition of the bio-polymer is already defined, the liquid phase is aqueous and contains of different salts based on mono- or multi-valent cations. The project is in a phase where the use of vibrational spectroscopy, applied during variable conditions (like temperature and degree of hydration) is crucial to further develop the material concept.
Who we are looking for
The following requirements are mandatory:
- A doctoral degree in chemistry, physics or materials science (or an equivalent foreign degree). This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience in Raman spectroscopy, especially using advanced cells for controlled temperature variations.
- Experience with materials in the liquid state
- Experience with synthesis of materials
The following experience will strengthen your application:
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
- Experience in other techniques, such as crystallography and differential scanning calorimetry.
What you will do
- Collaborate with a team of seniors and postdocs already active in the project.
- Plan and perform measurements using Raman and Infarred spectrometers, under variable conditions. You will also design sample cells that will faciliatate your measurements. Analyse the data, discuss them with the team, and communicate them in the form of oral presentations at conferences or as high-quality scientific articles.
- Design experiments that are truly complementary to NMR measurements.
- Possibility to engage in the supervision younger students.
Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years.
The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A document certifying your degree of doctor must be provided. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
