Linnaeus University takes pride in hosting one of Sweden's pioneering programs in tourism and hospitality. Since 2003, it has led the nation in establishing Tourism Studies as an academic discipline. Building on the success of its bachelor's program in International Tourism Management, which dates back to 1978, Linnaeus University now offers an international master's program in Tourism and Sustainability. The Tourism Studies program is housed within the School of Business and Economics, one of the five faculties at Linnaeus University. Alongside tourism studies, the School of Business and Economics conducts research, education, and collaboration in the fields of business administration and economics. Notably, the School of Business and Economics holds accreditation from AACSB.

Subject area description
The position is financed by the European Union, within the “Urban Burden of Disease Estimation for Policy Making” program. The project will develop an understanding of the links between urban and transport planning, environmental exposure, and physical health. The postdoc will work on economizing these interrelationships, specifically in the context of evaluating and developing tools and guidelines for cost-benefit analyses. The consortium involved includes the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, the University of Cambridge, the University of Utrecht, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, as well as the Health and Environment Alliance in Belgium.
Context of position
This is a full-time, 24-month position as a postdoctoral researcher within the tourism research group at the School of Business and Economics. The candidate is expected to develop and conduct research as part of a fully funded project and to coordinate research efforts, including cost-benefit analyses for transport and health across a large sample of European cities. Specifically, the project seeks to advance the understanding of transport-related air pollution, noise, and other exposure factors affecting quality of life and health. The candidate will also develop new topics and research avenues within this field and publish results in cooperation with other researchers in leading journals. Administration and participation in project meetings in partner countries are expected.
Requirements
To qualify for the position of postdoctoral researcher at Linnaeus University, you must have completed a doctoral degree by the start of employment. The doctoral degree should not be older than three years from the last date of application. Your doctoral thesis should be in economics, business studies, tourism, or a related field of the social sciences. The candidate should demonstrate project management skills, have a track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, and possess strong communication skills, including fluency in English. Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral researcher for more than one year in the same or a related subject area at Linnaeus University.
Assessment
The assessment considers documented proficiency in the use of quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as published research in leading scientific journals in related fields. Additional merits for this position include knowledge of the European transport and health field and its political context. Experience in managing EU-funded projects is a merit, and ideally, experience in preparing reports at the EU level or similar.
