Cell Design Engineer

Northvolt has an exciting job opportunity for a Senior Cell Design Engineer to join our passionate team in Västerås.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large-scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon-free society.

The Senior Cell Design Engineer will be in charge of the electrode design with the cell development project. You will have the opportunity to build a competent and dependable team from a strategy, capable to scale Northvolt's operations in Sweden. You will be in charge of setting up and executing the long-term Cell and Electrode development project reporting to the team and group leader.

The cell project of the electrode design will primarily support the Process and Manufacture teams to create a project cell electrode. You will be working intimately with the material team and group, cell designers, and project leaders.

Our aim is to Electrode design and development for customer projects.

In general, you have a long experience in the field and have been driving large, innovative, and challenging electrode development projects with high demands on Lithium-ion batteries.

Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working with electrode design as well as new electrode development.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Developing lithium-ion batteries for Energy Storage, Electric Vehicles, and other applications
• Developing and Improvement basic composition design of Electrode for lithium-ion battery
• Evaluating the basic physical property and the fundamental performance of Electrode
• Electrode design included support and managing the R&D Labs scale.

Education/Experience

• More than 5 years of practical experience in LIB cell development is a must
• A degree in Ph.D./MS Chemistry or Chemical/Electrochemical engineering (Admit terms for a period of MS & Ph.D.) is a must
• Experience in planning, developing, and executing the design of experiments for proceeding and testing of Cell is a must
• 3+ years of working experience in Electrode design is a plus
• Experience in the Batteries or Ultracapacitor manufacturing industry is a plus
• Experience in the selection, characterization, and validation of LIB materials is a plus (active materials, additives, binders, separators, electrolytes, etc.)

Specific Skills/Abilities

• Have the basic knowledge of LIB materials and electrochemistry
• Operation skill of the measuring equipment required for analysis
• Knowledge of the equipment required for sample production
• The basic process of LIB cells, the engineering methods such as DOE or 6 Sigma or others
• Exceptionally good negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Have a can-do attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit
• Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently
• Ability to work in a high profile and often high pressured international environment
