Thesis work, 30 credits - Preclinical and Translation PK/PD in Obesity

Om jobbet
We are excited to offer a thesis opportunity that explores the impact of obesity on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) in a preclinical context, with a strong focus on translational applications for clinical development.About AstraZeneca:
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-centred biopharmaceutical company focusing on discovering, developing, and commercialising prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than a global leading pharmaceutical company. At AstraZeneca, we're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work and empowering employees to push the boundaries of science and fuel their entrepreneurial spirit.
About the Opportunity:
As a Thesis Worker at AstraZeneca, you'll find an environment that's full of unique opportunities and exciting challenges. Here, you'll have the opportunity to pursue your areas of interest whilst equally developing a broad skillset and knowledge base to get the best out of your experience. You'll be working on a meaningful project to make an impact and deliver real value for our patients and our business.
Thesis work description:
Join our research team to investigate how obesity affects pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in a preclinical context, and how these findings can be useful in a translational setting. This master thesis project addresses interesting aspects of how obesity and related comorbidities may influence drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) processes and drug efficacy across different drug modalities. The project will utilize advanced PK/PD modeling and simulation (M&S), working with both internal and external data sets, to support improved translation from preclinical to clinical applications.
Impact:
This project will harness advanced PK/PD M&S to understand how obesity and its associated comorbidities could affect ADME and drug efficacy.
Key Objectives:
- Apply PK/PD M&S to analyze and interpret preclinical and clinical data
- Study the influence of obesity on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic parameters of various drug modalities
- Deepen understanding of how obesity and related comorbidities modulate ADME processes and drug efficacy
- Support translation of research findings into potential clinical impact.
Location:
This is an on-site position requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office at AstraZeneca Gothenburg. AstraZeneca does not support with relocation/accommodation.
Structure:
Duration: Fall term 2026
Credits: 30
Essential Requirements:
- Enrolled at a Swedish university
- Enrolled in a Master's program within Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Mathematics or other relevant fields
- Strong interest in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, translational research and PK/PD M&S
- Strong writing and oral communication skills in English
Desirable Requirements:
- Knowledge or experience with PK/PD modelling software such as Phoenix, NONMEM, R and/or MATLAB
