Summer Trainee, Platform Engineering - Impactful Summer 2026Are you ready to power the future with a summer job at the heart of the energy industry? Apply now and join us for an impactful summer 2026!
About the role
Fortum's Platform Engineering team is looking for a Summer Trainee who wants to work together with our platform engineers and architects. As Fortum's internal platform group, we build and run the internal developer platform (IDP) and cloud foundations used by teams across the company-covering Azure and AWS, container platforms (e.g., Kubernetes), CI/CD, observability, security controls, and developer experience.
You will take part in our projects and help specialists in their day-to-day work. Tasks can be customized based on your experience and interests, ranging from Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), pipeline automation (GitHub Actions), CloudOps, and policy-as-code to developer portal UX and reliability engineering.
About you
We hope that you apply for the position if you are:
• A recent graduate or a student in the final stages of your education in computer/software engineering, information technology, or a related field.
• Fluent in written and spoken English, our language for internal communication. Knowledge of Finnish or Swedish is an advantage.
• Comfortable with programming/scripting (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript or Bash) and have hands-on interest in cloud, CI/CD or Infrastructure-as-Code - through studies or well-documented personal projects.
We offer you
We offer you a perfect opportunity to start your career in platform engineering. Our group combines talented juniors and experienced specialists, so you'll have plenty of guidance. Technically, you'll see a wide range of platform services, a sophisticated and constantly evolving engineering stack, and real production environments.
During the summer you will:
• Receive a structured introduction and be supported by your team.
• Work on interesting tasks with real responsibility and visible impact.
• Enjoy a hybrid work model with flexible hours, balancing remote and in-office work.
• Learn about Fortum, the energy industry, and the sustainable solutions we're advancing.
• Network with other trainees and with platform, security, and application teams.
• Gain valuable experience that can lead to a future with us - many trainees continue after the summer (part-time during studies or as thesis workers).
