The Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts research in several different areas, such as osteoporosis, endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, respiratory medicine and allergology, and clinical nutrition focusing on body composition and energy metabolism. The research is conducted in close collaboration with health care at both the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Mölndal Hospital.

A position for a researcher with expertise in 3D imaging, light-sheet microscopy, bone biology, and extensive experience with transgenic mice and primary cell cultures. The position is available at the laboratory of Skeletal Biology, headed by Professor Andrei S Chagin. We are working on different aspects of skeletal biology, from evolutionary and developmental biology to physiology and regenerative medicine. Our research focuses on children's longitudinal growth, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and fracture healing.

Job assignments

The researcher is expected to drive scientific projects, learn the methods in the lab, as well as independently establish new techniques and technologies, coordinate ongoing collaborations both within and outside the team, write scientific papers, and instruct students and other scientists in the team. The work involves being able to plan, perform, analyze, and document experiments and to communicate the results both within the department and to the greater research community. The duties furthermore include actively taking part in research meetings, handling mouse colony and tissue biopsies, and contributing to the smooth running of the local research environment.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a researcher, the applicant must have a doctoral degree in biomedicine and documented research work after defending the dissertation corresponding to qualifications as a postdoctoral education with a minimum 2 years' experience in bone biology. The candidate should have experience in advanced deep imaging and corresponding high-end microscopy, expertise in mouse genetic manipulations including lineage tracing, and primary cell cultures. Good ability in oral and written communication in English is a requirement. In assessment, great emphasis is placed on personal suitability and the ability to work together.
