Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programmes in molecular biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, as well as Bachelor's Programme in Pharmacy/Dispensing Pharmacists. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are centrally located in Natrium, Medicinareberget, Gothenburg.
The position is linked to the research group in theoretical biochemistry. In the research group, advanced research on protein structures and protein complexes, protein-ligand interactions and drug discovery is performed. The group utilizes advanced computational chemistry and AI based methodologies.
Duties
Work tasks include in silico based develeopment and screening of inhibitors towards acetyl and butyryl cholinesterases, such as MD simulations, AI-based screening, docking and ligand design. The candidate will furthermore test promising drug candidates against cancer cells with upregulated AchE activity.
Qualifications
Eligable for the postion:
- PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, theoretical biochemistry, or equivalent, obtained in the last 3 years.
Requirements for the position:
- At least 3 years of experience, including scientific publications, of: the use of advanced computational chemistry tools, primarily the Schrödinger package for docking and MD simulations; conducting in-vitro experiments; and studies of acetyl- and butyryl-cholinesterase.
- Experience usage of supercomputer clusters for docking and simulations.
Meritious for the position:
- Experience in presenting research at scientific conferences and in research groups.
- Ability to collaborate and experience in supervision of students.
- Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
Employment
The employment as researcher is a fixed term, fulltime,100 % during 7 months at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology.
