Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributing to the WASP WARA Robotics and ABB Robotics research in ABB Robotics Sweden. Main stakeholders are industrial and academic partners in the WARA Robotics consortium, as well as internal and external customers for ABB Robotics Research. Read more about WARA here:

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Creating, improving, and maintaining software technologies for robotics in areas such as control, navigation, manipulation, vision, and AI.
• Contributing to the WARA Robotics project, supporting AI and ML researchers from Sweden and building the robotics research lab infrastructure.
• Working with ABB industrial and collaborative robots, sensors for robotics, and other mechatronic devices.
• Working with robots in both real and simulated environments to support or develop technologies and intelligence for robots, as one of the key aspects of research in WARA Robotics.
• Writing technical documentation for researchers and engineers as end users in WARA Robotics.
• Working in an agile and international team. You are expected to be able to work both independently and within teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications for the role

• Have a MSc or PhD degree of education in the subjects of robotics, software engineering, or more generally computer science.
• Good theoretical knowledge and experience in various robotics fields.
• experience in applying AI/ML technology to Robotics for real application cases
• Good knowledge in C++ and Python, and experience with software engineering practices.
• Knowledge of ABB RAPID/RobotStudio and experience with robot commissioning is a plus.
• Experience with Linux, software version control, and ROS 2 is a plus.
• English as the working language.

You will be part of the research team at ABB Robotics in Västerås, Sweden. In our role as ABB Robotics Research, we ensure ABB Robotics' technology competitiveness now and in future.

In the Robotics research team we focus on mechatronics concepts, design and robot intelligence in both industrial and service robot segments. Our research activities usually formulated as technology pre-study and technology development projects. We work closely with ABB's robotics business to ensure our research will bring unique value for ABB Robotics. At the same time, we have close collaboration with academic world to bridge the academic and industrial research. In this team, one of our historical highlights is the creation and development of the dual-arm YuMi robot concept and the mobile YuMi concept.
