Denna position rapporterar till:
Chapter Lead

__

Our R&D engineers and scientists develop breakthrough technologies and products that change the way the world works and industries do business. We constantly push the limits of convention, while retaining our focus on delivering solid returns for our customers and shareholders

We are now looking for an R&D Engineer with a mechanical focus to strengthen one of our agile development teams

Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

You will be reporting to the R&D Electromechanical Chapter Leader and joining the Load Control Agile Unit based in Västerås, Sweden. This unit operates within ABB Electrification/Smart Power division, dedicated to developing and taking care of our portfolio within low voltage products such as contactors and soft starters.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects
  • Performing various tasks in the assigned area related to electromechanical design, from building concepts, gathering requirements to designing, implementing, integrating, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations.
  • Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
  • Driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks.

Our team dynamics
You will be part of an agile development team, working closely with a Product Owner. The Product Owner sets the direction and goals - the team decides how to achieve them.

This role is not task‑driven in the traditional sense. Instead, you will work in a problem‑solving engineering environment.

Qualifications for the role

  • 3 or more years of experience in product maintenance or development
  • A Masters degree in mechanics, mechatronics engineering or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge in CAD software and PLM tools is meritorious.
  • Fluency in English is a requirement, Swedish is a plus.

As a person, you take responsibility naturally when given freedom and are comfortable working without predefined tasks. You are analytical, communicative, and able to define both what needs to be done and what you need from others in order to achieve results. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment while maintaining a high level of independence.
