Postdoctoral studies in in cognitive mechanisms (scholarship)Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The position regards the lab of Marie Carlén, Professor in Neuronal Networks at the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Campus Solna. Utilizing a systems neuroscience approach, the Carlenlab studies the cellular and circuit underpinnings of cognition, with a focus on the prefrontal cortex (PFC). For more information see:https://ki.se/en/neuro/carlenlab
Duties
The postdoc will lead independent experimental work focused on electrophysiological recordings (Neuropixels) in awake mice. Analysis of the generated data is a central duty using large population recording techniques and advance computing capabilities.
Candidate's profile
We are looking for a hands-on experimentalist with extensive experience of high-density electrophysiological recordings (Neuropixels) in mice. Equally important is expertise in analysis of neuronal represenations and their transformations across brain regions and brain states.

Required technical expertise and qualifications:
  • A PhD in neuroscience, obtained no more than a few years before the start date (according to KI postdoc rules).
  • Strong experience in in vivo , awake, mouse experiments with focus on electrophysiology, including setup of experimental apparatus, hardware, and software.
  • Analysis of large neuronal ensembles and diverse datasets using machine-learning and modelling tools.
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity through first-author publications directly relevant to the position.
  • A high degree of independence, good organizational skills, and strong communication in English (spoken and written).

Meriting:
  • Documented development and optimization of tools for analysis and visualization of electrophysiological data.
  • Experience of analysis of electrophysiological data from other species than mice, particularly from the prefrontal cortex.
  • Experience with standardized neural data format (NWB) and spike-sorting software.
Entry requirements
Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. A foreign researcher is a person living in another country who comes to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post-doctoral education.
